Card Shop Today! - Sad Story :(

I went to the card shop that I haven't been to in ages to say hi to a few people, it's not that great of a drive.
So I'm looking at the cards/boxes and a guy walks in with a BGS 8 Jordan, a 54 Mantle, and a 57 Mantle, both mantles EXTREMELY gradeable 7+
The card shop owner wouldn't buy them, and I spoke to the guy. He wanted $160, sadly I don't keep too much cash on me and couldn't buy them, knowing the Jordan sells for $500 I asked if he could wait for me to go to the ATM and I could have his money. He said yes, then as I'm walking out some other guy who has a case in the shop (I don't) I guess had the cash in hand and buys the card and both of them are gone by the time I get back.
End of sad story.

and sell it and have your money in like 15 minutes? Who is that stupid? Do people still sell high end cards at card shops for 10% value? I wish some of these idiots would
walk into the shop I go to.
Cheers...

So, did the other guy buy all three cards? That Jordan alone was for $160? For a liquid card like that you don't have to like it as you can easily make a profit.
I always liked intercepting deals like that. The dealer would not want the cards from a selling customer and they happen to be cards I wanted and get a great deal too.

I had no doubts to the authenticity of the cards, there's alot of meth heads in this area, I bought a Joe Namath 12 patch auto 1/1 for 40$

Was the 54 a bowman?

I gotta agree, and I think that's what scared the dealer. A guy who walks in with items that even a novice would recognize has value, yet wants what amounts to a song for them sounds pretty iffy, like he just wants to offload some hot items quickly. I mean, he was so eager to sell that he couldn't wait for you to come back, and sold to someone else who had the cash? At best, he's a jerk for reneging on his handshake deal to you, at worst, he's a thief. Either way, I wouldn't want to do business with him, and I think your empty wallet may have been a blessing rather than a squandered opportunity.

I would not buy stolen goods unless you have the intention of reporting it to the police or FBI right away. I had stuff stolen and I can imagine the thugs going to a pawn shop to cash their stuff in. If the cards were not so liquid, 50% or below is reasonable. I got star cards for 50% of book whenever the dealer passed on them, but they were not Jordans, Mantles, or Ripkens either.
Since this area is a meth infested place, sounds like a desperate druggie trying to earn his fix.

It appears obvious to me that he needed exactly $160 to pay off somebody, or maybe it was $150 to pay off somebody and $10 extra to buy lunch. He definitely needed exactly $160.

"lets analyze every word he said because I trust no one and every word someone types on these forums is a lie thread"
Nothing stuck out saying the cards were fake, I don't do vintage well, but obviously if someone who has half the cases in the shop ended up buying them then they probably didn't have any questions either.

I don't think anyone is claiming the cards were fake or that you are a liar.
Is seems that the consensus feels those cards were stolen and Seller was trying to score additional meth.
