Here are 1796 half dimes that got body bags when I owned them. This a very scarce date that is hard to find in any condition.

This one was called "damaged." It has a couple of teeth marks. I've seen MUCH worse in graded holders.



This one got "altered surfaces." After seeing a piece with AU sharpness, but whizzed in a holder and still called AU, this does not look too bad.



Both look better in holder than a body bag, and since the Chinese are making coins to order, having these genuine pieces marked as such would be a good thing.

And no, I no longer own either of them ...

Lacquer should come off easily with acetone or possibly even 90% ETOH

Yep, Laquer would come right off with a few acetone baths in fresh acetone each time. I have done it to a many large cents.
