Have you ever dated a fellow coin collector?

If so, what were some of your pick up lines?
I'll show you my CAC if you show me your Busts? (This works best if you're from New Jersey!)
Is that a half-roll of dimes in your pocket?
Is that PVC on your obverse?
Is that delamination on your reverse?
Check out my hard slab!

I'm not sure if dating a coin collector would be a dream come true or a nightmare. I could imagine it both ways.

Would it matter if they were a key date or a better date; or are the common dates better?

LOL! Nope! Was referring more to the following:
"I have not dated a fellow coin collector as I don't date men. "
Coin collecting is kind a personal, reflective, quiet hobby. I'd gladly go scuba diving or running with my favorite gal but looking at coins through a loupe??????
However, if there are people out there who do that with their spouse and they enjoy it all I can say is "Good on ya. I'm all for it."

The auction houses have some appealing women working for them.

PS I've seen some nice ladies at coin shows, often working behind the table, sometimes single looking, but I think they are almost always attached to the the male behind the table. Charmy I have never seen but I'll save her the need to replay by saying that she is an exception.

Charmy, if you were available, there would be a stampede in your direction.

Ummmmm those are my children.
on a more serious note on my yearly trek this past summer to the keys to visit my bro i met a friend of his who had his girlfriend along. he called her "sharkbait". he is a player and i`ll guess it meant when dating her gets old he`d push her overboard.
in our conversation my brother mentions i collect/buy/sell coins and she blurts out "oh, right now i am looking for a 1960 lincoln DDO for my collection." needless to say i was floored!!!
far and few between they are out there.

Ok, so I wasn't even close......time for another Christmas glass of wine!!!!
...a half-roll? Dating will be an uphill climb with anyone if thats the comparison!
This thread has made me reconsider some of my opinions about Moderns.
Charmy and I went out to dinner in Cincinnati. Of course we were chaperoned by her son and Eagle Eye.
<< <i>Un-freakin-believable.... Cheers, RickO >>
I'll 2nd that.
She was not when I met her, but when I took her to her first show in 1993, she looked at a 1804 Plain 4, stemless Half Cents with a "copper pot" look. When Lisa told he that it was ugly, I told her "I think I love you, honey." Of course, I loved her before that!!!
As an aside, women tend to have a better idea of color than men do. Although Lisa is not into the technicalities as much, she is awesome at picking up imperfections and eye appeal. When we put a nice Half Cent collection together from 1994-2006, we made a great team.

I have not dated any "fellows"--not that there is anything wrong with it! (Seinfeld reference, for those that are PC and do not get it)
In all seriousness, it never occurred to me.
<< <i>Well Barry and I have had lunch on several occasions. He never paid though as we either split the check or I paid....if you consider those lunches as "dates" or not.....
Bob - I was two-timing you, as shortly after one of our "dates," I had dinner with RYK
P.S. You paid? I don't remember that...
Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
The girlfriends I've had since I've started collecting think that my coin funds would be better spent elsewhere - mainly on them

The second time, sure did.....didn't even get so much as a hug when we parted either!
<< <i>I have been married to one for 15+ years.

Really? You think women have better taste in color and eye appeal? I think that I am pretty picky and as my pseudonym suggests, I am male.
He married her, too.
Mom used to take me to the coin shops in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles) every Saturday from about age 8 through age 15 when we moved to a more rural area.
She subscribed to Coin World, bought annual sets from the mint, saved to buy key dates from the local dealers, and seeded my interest in the hobby. Although most of her collection was stolen in a home burglary in the early seventies, she continued to order mint products until she passed away in 1991.
Yes, you might call my father a lucky guy. He not only dated... but he married a coin collector.
Too bad he had no interest in coins himself. Couldn't care less... and never understood how she could spend fifty dollars (or more) on a "penny".
They did have another common bond, however, that many guys find just as elusive.
They both liked to fish.
After Dad retired, they spent 25 years fishing and crabbing off the coast of Crescent City in northern California. I joined them occasionally on weekends, and during my summer vacations.
I remember that we would lose fishing lines and lures occasionally as they "snagged" unexpectedly when fishing in the area. They used to joke that some day they would "catch" a sunken ship full of gold coins.
Two years after Mom passed away, a team from Deep Sea Research would discover the treasure ship Brother Johnathan on the ocean floor just south of Point St. George.
Mom was gone, and my father cussed the closure of the area to fishing, for the recovery efforts. But Mom would have loved it!
And I wonder... just how many of our family's lures might have brought up from the ocean floor with the recovery of that shipwreck, and all of it's gold.

Then stop making yourself repulsive to women. Most people are repulsive by choice, not by nature.
