I didn't know too much about this store card but the establishment is no longer in business and it was over stuck on an 1899 o Morgan Dollar. It was too cool not to buy.image

Corrado Romano, Worthy Coin's owner, had a great silver center cent in his collection. He was evidently quite proud of it.

:cool when I was young I went to his Saturday bid board auctions. The first auction I went to had several rare liberty seated dollars that I was underbidder on. If I only knew then what I know now I would have owned some amazing examples. :2Beer

The Worthy Coin Company issued those in the late 1980s as a celebration of Corrado Romano's 1792 Silver Center Cent. The coin had been sold by Stacks', and Don Romano had those made up to honor his father's memory. You have one of the pieces that was struck over a Morgan Dollar, and as such it is a bit scarce. The most common variety was stuck in aluminum. There are also pieces made of copper with a silver center and other metals. I have all of them except the one that was struck over a $20 gold piece. That one is unique or nearly so. I just couldn’t see sacrificing a $20 gold coin at the time.

I really miss the Nashua, New Hampshire show. I used to set up there, and it was a wonderful place to buy and sell. It was and probably still is the best one day show in New England.

Thanks for bringing up so fond memories of my days in New England. I miss many things about that time, but not the cold. image

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

without a doubt @BillJones had the best information on this!
I did however found the gold $20 overstuck was auctioned off long ago..
Bill, I won a lot of Worthy merchant tokens today from Stacks.
Would you know the mintages on the various coins?

Congrats Stef! I bid on that lot but my focus was elsewhere so I'm glad it went to you!

There were a lot of nice pieces in that lot. I wonder who the original collector was.
