North Korea warns of possible 'brink of war'

YEONPYEONG ISLAND, South Korea – Fresh artillery shots were heard Friday on the tense South Korean island of Yeonpyeong just three days after it was devastated by a North Korean attack. One report said the shots were from military drills being carried out on the nearby North Korean mainland. Sharp toured Yeonpyeong earlier Friday, dressed in a heavy camouflage jacket and army fatigues and wearing a black beret. He walked down a heavily damaged street strewn with debris from buildings. Around him were charred bicycles and shattered bottles of soju, a kind of Korean alcoholic drink.

The situation on the Korean peninsula is inching closer to the brink of war

The Moral of the story is that without China, North Korea wouldn't be.

There must be another lesson for the US buried in that fact.

Nothing but "Saber Rattling" by the North, hoping to win concessions from the US & the South. Would not be first time nor the last time.

The 26 year-old son of Dear Leader, Dear Leader Jr., needs to establish some street cred so he can keep his "sheeples" scared and perpetuate the 60 year-old war between China and the US.

Would those in support of having a military there ante up the money to play badass by themselves ?
  • This isn't going to end well, we are on the verge of utter economic collapse and were going to bite the hand that's currently feeding us. China has loaned us Billions of dollars to fund of debt and we turn our nose up to them. Stepping into another conflict we cant afford and China deciding to raise our interest rate wouldn't name us it would destroy us. Who do we thank we are!? Does the people running this country really believe they fall outside the laws of economics? Wake up people this could be the end of our quality of life and Hello socialism!. Why is the world so scared of these little people with chips on their shoulders ?

They can sink a ship killing 46, no one does anything.
They bomb an island, no one does anything.
They threaten and threaten and we look like fools letting them think they are something they are not.

Where is the line when we say "enough" ?

I don't think we are afraid of North Korea, its just that with a few nukes, they can do serious damage. They have a psychotic leader who would be willing to sacrifice his entire country to drop a few nukes killing hundreds of thousands or millions. With that, you have to play it safe and careful.

To suggest that employing military hostilities in order to gain concessions from the West is a correct answer is to both ignore history and to invite more and bigger troubles.

That being the case, I have little doubt that the situation will steadily inch toward a direct confrontation between North and South, leading to more tensions between the US and China. In establishing a bilateral currency regime that excludes the dollar, China and Russia must now feel that the US can be sufficiently-disabled that they can start threatening the US's remaining allies around the world.

All of these events are linked.

As the free world sees this happening, I would be inclined to think that money will start to seek the safest locales and that gold will continue being sought.

  • I remember the good old days when torpedoing a warship or shelling a military base was a guaranteed casus belli (like Pearl Harbor). Now the standard wimpy response is "Shame on you! Bad rogue state!" I foresee a time when a large percentage of middle class Americans will be "interned" in private encampments protected by other otherwise unemployed middle class Americans. Back in the "robber baron" days, the wealthy employed companies like the Pinkertons to protect their "managed enterprises" going as far as to kill Union Organizers that were hard working Americans trying to feed their families.

The conflicts in Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq and potentially Iran are distractions that are bleeding us dry.

Unfortunately, the Mossad, has no interest in N. Korea. Or, perhaps, similar damage has already infected N. Korea's nuc. facilities, and that's why they're pissed & throwing a few shells on an Island that has no military value whatsoever. image

The 1000 or so people in control in North Korea each want 1000 oz of gold. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

North Korea has no food and little electricity. The county basically goes dark at 8:00pm. You should see satellite images. This makes them both very weak and also very dangerous. They have nothing to lose. MJ

One day, the North will go a step too far and the South as well as American forces

will administer a long overdue therapy session. That step too far would be the shelling of Soul.

A long war is not in the best interests of America, so I would imagine a full rocket, artillary and small

tactical nucs will do the job in about 100 hours. It will also send a message to China, Iran and Syria.

Screw around too many times with the American Eagle and you get hurt real, really bad.No major world

power can stand ideally by and do nothing, in the face of continuing acts of aggression, without finally

reacting with the full force of American power. If the War games in the China Sea are not locked and loaded

for full out conflict, then a number of ranking officers should be relieved and court martialed.

If the enemy sends over 200 shells, you return 2000 shells. If they sink a ship, you sink 4 ships.

U.S. shouldve "jumped" at first word (actually before the media got wind) of any possible strike we couldve done on the N., THEN sort it out. Now, it's just another diplomatic event. Where's the U. S. intelligence?

We were so eager to play God in the Middle east, why the F not in the N.??? The quick answer is the Big C...and I dont mean cancer. Even so...make a POINT and see what the fallout is at this point. Who's with me?

The world is bankrupt so N. Korea can get away with what they did. Clinton warned about our inablility to confront these kind of situations because of our fiscal situation. I am not saying we can't confront N. Korea but we will be limited in the future if we do not control our perilous debt situation.
