Just thought I'd get this out there... Saw this auction and opened my eyes a bit, he says he is in the process of getting some pictures up on his photobucket.

Game worn lebron/jordan, some pretty ridiculous stuff

"If I'm out to lunch...please let me know."

    PM sent.
  • I'll be calling him in a half hour to ask him some questions
  • Guy has just 1 feedback as a seller and it is negative...

"DON`T SELL TO THIS DEADBEAT- Email me for the entire NIGHTMERE-HE WILL SCAM YOU!"

"***Some of the pictures on the site are not mine BUT it is the SAME item I have. Would take me years to take pictures and scan all of this in. I did my best and can provide you additional details upon request."
  • As a buyer he has bought some VERY high dollar items and had all positive. We'll see, I'll call him and see what he has to say lol
  • I don't know. I think this one falls into the "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is" category. I just refuse to believe that the guy could be so foolish to list all those items together like that. It's as if he has no idea what he has. I'm interested to see what the final price of this auction will be though.
  • If you look at his feedback, he has purchased some very high ticket items. Some Jordan game used shoes, a Jordan suit. Gretzky autos, Jordan autos, etc. Thousands of dollars worth of purchases. Is he dumping everything that he has purchased within months (sometimes days) of buying it? Strange, indeed.

Do Canadians even know how to lie?
  • Someone should see if he would do it in person (I realized it was Ontario and asked him to call me so I don't get charged)

    Bull Sheet
  • Do you see his sports CAR collection? I wouldn't mind having that ---

Maybe he just has the money to dump and wants to change hobbies.

The Wagner is a worthless reprint and PSA also says its a fake (? Auth), why would this clown even show that card?

Both '52 Mantles are trimmed or restored. Thats some $$ but far from big time cards.

The V100's and V117's have some good value, but his scans are crap.

A tad fishy I would say.
  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,615 ✭✭✭✭✭
    very weird.
  • Alright, well I just spoke to him about his collection. I addressed some of your concerns with him, and he took them well and had proper explanations for basically everything.

He seemed like a very nice guy, I had quite a few suggestions for him which I do think he will actually do (He has ended the auction as of now)

One being obviously anyone with that kind of money will want to come in person, he told me he already had someone flying in this weekened- and he has been offered some fairly high numbers (Not going to say what)

Yes he can lie to me, but he seemed like a nice guy, these pieces ALL have jsa/steiner/psa/original authentication, such as the 84 jordan proof back auto, comes with original authentication from the star company.

He told me the one mantle was trimmed, but he said the one from SGC he bought from someone (don't want to mention it for privacy) who has an extremely extremely high end collection and assured him that it was not altered/recolored, and he is considering getting that cracked and graded.

The Wagner has a letter from PSA with a really "could be/difficult to tell" authentication, and you never know, even one in that condition, authenticated is worth some bucks, as well as just countless famous ridiculously expensive pieces.

As for the Lindros, he basically told me they are from the "difficult" to pull 1/1 era (obviously not present), along with having probably the largest Lindros collection known anywhere, there is really no way to fake all the high end cards/coas and whatnot that he has, just seems like someone with a lot of money that bought some ridiculous pieces.

When I asked him about the pieces that he "just pulled pictures from the web" he told me it was only for some of the random sets that he didn't want to take hundreds of pictures for,.

Overall he seemed like a nice guy who just wanted a change of pace, he has a ridiculous amount of high end items and that is why he only wanted to sell it local, and I suggested just having it available by appointment. I have no doubts that everything he has is pretty nice, and I'm sure he will get what he is looking for.

FYI when PSA finds a card to be NOT Authentic ...... they will say on the flip "? Authenticity"
it means the card is NOT Authentic, not that they couldnt tell if it was authentic or not. Its their code for fake.
Thats the easiest part of authentication T206, there are no good reprints, they are very obvious in person. The hard part is looking for alterations. That type of T206 reprint is one of the easiest kinds to tell, even in a picture as bad as this one.... I know it well.

He should sell the 2 Mantle's separate, and the V100's and V117's in groups, but with the Johnson and Ruth V117 separately. All with clear scans front and back.

Besides the SGC Mantle, The best card I saw is the V117 Johnson if it has a nice back. The Ruth would have been the best except for the paper pull on front.
I didnt even look at the new Topps etc.stuff or autographs so....

    Are you getting a commission?

Since most thought it was a scumbag sammer I am sure he is simply reiterating that the guy was a nice well spoken person and not trying to commit fraud.

There are plenty of legit collectors out there and while using his auction format was not the best, he got some calls from his listing and if anything it was a great cheap advertisement.

  • Sorry for repeating a word a couple time and not proof reading what I posted 8 times.

Edit so I don't double post*

I think a commission would be rather ridiculous (although I'm not getting one) considering beatles albums sell for 20k+, and he has single items worth more than the entire remainder of my collection.

I don't know why trying to speak positively about someone who everyone thought is a scumbag means I'm getting a commission .

  • Hi

I am the owner of "the collection" you are all speaking of. I've only listed one item ever on ebay which was a car and the guy who left me negative feedback was an absolute jerk....look at him today...he has a feedback of (11)!! He kept stalling on picking the car up so I ended up selling to someone else. Also called me a million times and had to actually report him to the police and file a report.

As for my T206 Wagner...I never said it's AUTHENTIC - just reading what's on the PSA docs I have. If that means its a reprint..o.k than...I didn't know that and I appreciate your feedback.

I tried the "lot" on ebay as I thought maybe I'd get some offers and some interest. I've had some interest but more than not...most don't believe I have all this "stuff". I've worked very hard and spent A LOT of money on this collection. I tried to collect ONLY high end items. The Gent. that called me was just asking questions that were on this forum...nothing more...we spoke for 15 minutes tops. My collection is available for anyone to see.

Should you want to see ANY item...in a different scan...please let me know...I can put the card infront of a window...on a stove...on the hood of a Lamborghini...to prove I have the actual item. I did put on the auction that I did "take" some pics from others...yes...there are thousands of gamer cards from pinnacle and things like that so it was just easier to copy a pic already on line. I just wasn't comfortable doing so without actually stating in the auction that some pics were not mean. I didn't feel that was an ethical thing to do...so I placed the disclaimer on there to be honest and upfront. I ended the auction as I know it is really in my best interest to piece the collection out. I don't have the time to do it...so should that time come...I will contract it out.

Hope this clears some things up. I know some of the scans are not very good...believe it or not...I managed to do all those pics on my bucket within a 3 day period and I believe there are over 600 of them with another 100+ to come.

I'm NOT a scammer....just a hard working average joe who's tried to put a nice collection together.

    BullMarket88

Thank you for your feedback on my collection. It was appreciated.

I think it is great you found this thread and signed up to post and clear things up.

There are a lot of scammers online and people now acuse before they ask or research.

    Good luck with your collection!
  • Thank you...I appreciate that.

Ethics are everything to me...and I did put the pics up fast...so I understand how people could assume the worst.

Like I said though...I'm just an average guy who's worked hard and has enjoyed collecting sports cards and memorabilia. I've NEVER sold anything of my collection in the past...just a collector!!

As noted...should anyone have ANY questions about my collection...PLEASE don't hesitate to ask...I can verify EVERYTHING.

Welcome to these boards. You really should go through either an established eBayer to sell these cards or through an auction house for a lot of them. Selling them in this manner is gonna leave a lot of money on the table. I am a PowerSeller / Top Rated seller on feeBay but don't know enough about these types of items to be able to help with selling them. You don't happen to have any high end Magic the Gathering cards do you? image

That Ted Williams UD card is not real. They weren't signed with that marker, and they weren't #'d to 9

Indeed, odd that it would have ended like that.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • When I spoke to him I told him that there is no way he is getting the numbers that he wanted (6 digits) and he ended it shortly after we spoke.

I want to see the Mantle cards on the hood of a Lamborghini.
  • This guy is an absolute piece of crap. I had a partial 93 Finest refractor set listed a couple months ago. He asked for my number to discuss a price, then called me bragging about all his Mantles and high end stuff, blah blah blah. After literally 2 weeks of negotiating and a couple phone calls from his end, we agreed on a price of something like $4500 plus some stuff in trade I needed. Says he will send payment in 2 days. A week later, I call and ask when he plans on sending payment. Gives me some lame excuse about being really busy and he will do it the next day. After that he ducks all of my emails and calls and never sends payment.

So basically he had me hold $5000 in stuff for a month and never had any intention of paying for, even though a price had been agreed upon and confirmed at least twice. The kicker was he said he's buying all this stuff to put away for his daughter, because obviously there's nothing a teenage girl likes more than 90s inserts. I see his plans have changed. I hope he doesn't screw over his daughter like he does people in his card dealings.

I'd be interested in the T206 Wagner reprint - I often buy those T206 Wagner reprints offered on ebay although sometimes I get outbid.

I dealt with this guy too, made me talk to him on the phone before he would pay (so he could request that I falsify the goods value so he doesn't have to pay Canadian duty), he think's he's hot stuff, as Lee said he likes to brag about his collection, the only problem is before we talked I already checked him out and he has no idea about what he's spending his money on, tons of fakes, the kind of guy who picks them up on the cheap and then brags that he has autograph of X just so he can brag about it.

If he's in Ontario why is the auction listed in Chicago, if he's "borrowing" scans of some items why is he scanning worthless mid 90's hockey cards? Am I the only one laughing at the legitimacy of some of those items in his bucket?
