New SLQ - FH...

MFHMFH Posts: 11,720 ✭✭✭✭
Yesterday, I posted the coin below...

imageimage

This now completes my 1917 SLQ's both Ty 1 & Ty 2's.

My Dad was born in 1917 - and although I once had a
far superior collection of his birthyear coins - these are
just as well struck - just maybe have a tick or two more.

See the last post for today's Newp...

Most of the 17-S 2's that I've seen which have the full head and full shield details are from clashed dies...

However yours is the heaviest clash I've seen at the knee! image

  • Nice pick-up. SLQ's are among the prettiest designs I have ever seen. Are they your photos.

    No, Tom. Not mine.

I plan on having all of my Quarters
    professionally imaged one of these
    days.

    ----------------------------------------

    Broadstuck,

I thought it was a pretty hammered coin myself.
I picked it up from your friend in Newfoundland.

I thought I recognized it and it's a LOT of coin for the grade and price... Nice! image

I pulled the trigger last night on this SLQ...

The image isn't the best - but I'll have my
    SLQ's imaged professionally.

    Sorry about the tiny images...
I know this coin is hammered...

I have been slowly working on my SLQ collection
and most of my newps have been "almost FH's" -
but every so often, I do locate a FH which isn't priced
    in the stratosphere.

Here's the newest addition to the SLQ Collection:

Seems like I need to shrink the image - as "dinner plate sized" images are not that flattering.

As most SLQ collectors realize - color on SLQ's is a rare occurrence as most have been dipped out.

Color will happen, Full Strikes are either there or not. This is definitely a well struck example of one of our most beautiful coins. Congrats.

Mine below doesn't have FH or the full shield like yours. I've never understood the premium for FH coins when most of them aren't full strikes.

For common dated non full heads in CH Unc pricing hasn't really jumped much in the last two decades.

    Thanks, Stone.

The seller and I came to an agreement and the coin is
being sent to me Express Mail today. I like it almost as
much as the other 1918-D that I had in my better collection.

After picking up the 1918-D [ images immediately above ] I started scouting
for a 1918-S MS 63 - 64 - either with or without a FH. The half dozen non full heads I examined
were not to my liking - and most of the FH's were just okay - "my Head Scout" advised
me against a few for various reasons - but we seem to have been in agreement with
the one just auctioned off at Heritage's Long Beach sale this evening.

    Here's my newp:

Buried in a file was my old 1918-S - which I'm showing for comparison purposes.
