In case anyone is still buying silver

As of this typing there are still 2 lots available at what seems to be a decent price among the usually overpriced eBay listings.

$25 face value quarters and dimes for $475.00 and free shipping

After using eBay bucks (2%) and Mr. Rebates (3%) it came to only $451.25.

I am not the seller or affiliated with the seller of the above eBay listing in any way (I did buy one of the lots though).

Disregarding those rebates, this deal represents the sale of silver at about 98.5% of melt value. Not a GREAT deal by any means. I'd imagine a buyer would have no problem duplicating this offer via our BST.

Finding the $475.00 price on the BST or finding the $451.25 price on the BST? I'd have never bought at $475 (98.5% of spot) without the discounts.

At the "rebates applied" price of $451, now we are at 93.5% of melt, which then becomes a pretty attractive deal. Since I dont use any of those "rebates" when buying, I simply dont factor them into my equation. You DO use the rebates, and so you did get the lot at 93.5% of melt value. Additionally, im biased against 90% (I only buy .999 fine bars) so my viewpoint is skewed by whats being offered here as well. To be fair, if I was offered 20 ounces of .999 fine at 93.5% (about $25/oz) right now, I would probably jump on it as well.

    You did well! image

Being a baseball card guy, and being admittedly PM ignorant for the most part, I need all the ooops protection I can get. Things like eBay bucks and Mr Rebates afford me that protection.

Did you use the bing discount when it was active? To me, if someone is giving me back 5% (2% eBay bucks and 3% Mr Rebates), then I'm taking it. Whether you buy a significant amount or just a fair amount of merchandise from eBay, why pay full price?

Some people spend an entire Sunday morning clipping coupons from the newspaper in order to save a few bucks at the grocery store. Some decide that it isnt worth the hassle. Same concept with bing, Mr. Rebate, ebay bucks, etc. Although I probably SHOULD take the extra time to apply for all the "free money", it just isnt worth it to me. Saving $50 on a $1,000 purchase just isnt a big enough incentive for me. Other people would jump through hoops just to save $10 on a $1,000 purchase. I used the Bing Cashback - a lot. I think my best deal was two years ago. Bought a raw Double Eagle that had a BIN around $1,000 and got it for $750. Sold it last spring for $1300. That 25% off was nice!

My total Bing Cashback was $2400 over the entire program.

To add perspective, the Sunday morning coupon clipping (and i do know people who do that) would be like climbing mount Everest in comparison to the 8 seconds it takes to become a member at a site like Mr Rebates. After that it's shopping on eBay exactly like you would anyway (if you do shop eBay), except you would enter eBay via Mr Rebates site. That's how easy it is.

    I don't pretend to know what's in anyone's pocket, but who can't use a free $50? image

Good point on ease of use regarding coupons and Mr. rebates.

I dont intend on coming off as a wealthy pompous jerk either. You wanna send me a free $50, i'll PM you my PO box info. But shaving $50 off a $1,000 purchase just doesnt appeal as much to me. Maybe I AM a wealthy pompous jerk!!! image

How much time did it take you find this listing, then utilize various discounts to save what looks like $50 bucks ( ? ), and/or did you enjoy just the looking or was the price the primary motive in looking/searching ?

As the saying goes: "If the shoe fits, wear it." Over the last couple of years, I've saved approx $2375 by using Bing...close to $500 by using Big Crumbs and around $500 in eBay bucks. The only additional time utilized was when Bing was available...the other 2 are automatic. It adds up and not utilizing it, is like looking a "gift horse in the mouth."
