Am gonna retire

CaptHenwayCaptHenway Posts: 32,119 ✭✭✭✭✭
From the U.S. Coin forum:

And now, for my 10,000th Bulletin, I would like to announce that after 37 years as a professional numismatist, I will be retiring from Harlan J. Berk, Ltd. sometime around the end of the year for reasons of declining health. Harlan has been wonderfully supportive of my physical needs and diminished abilities over the years, but it is time to go. I will remain available to the firm as a consultant for die varieties and authenticity, and perhaps a little writing. I will also continue to write for COINage and other venues in the future, and will continue to grace(?) these forums with my experience, my opinions and my bad jokes.
I expect to be at the ANA convention here in Chicago next Summer if anybody wants to say Hi.

Is it not amazing that for the past 30 years, we have been able to come not to work,
but to Play at our hobby and make a good living at it !??

After 28 years in Retail Store Front, I still do not consider this work... :-)

Only spoke with you a short time here, but you've earned my respect. Although health may not be the best, at least you got to do what you love for a living for a long time. If only we all could be so lucky in that sense. Best of luck to you and yours.
Retirement may be the ending of 1 thing, but at the same time is the beginning of another. As long as we can adapt to and accept the inevitable change that comes into our lives, we will be just fine, and it sounds like you will be just fine doing whatever it is you choose to do at this point. CONGRATS!!!
To forgive is to free a prisoner, and to discover that prisoner was you.

Tom, our communications have been stellar and I know that when we meet it will
be the same. Perhaps when you settle into retirement you may want to take a jaunt to
Vegas for some R and R. If so, please let me know and we'll talk up the town!

Enjoy your retirement. You've certainly earned it. Do you think that you may try some part time coin dealing?

No, you have to travel a lot to do that successfully, and I hate traveling these days. I remember my first airplane flight, back in 1971. I put on a suit and a tie, and a nice stewardess served a hot meal on a linen napkin with a real knife and fork.
Today people get on the plane in their bare feet, and you are lucky
to get half a Coke and six mini-pretzels.

Yep, flying was different. Personally Id much prefer to go hungry though than having to choke on all the darn cigarette smoke I had to endure back in those days. That was god awful.

I'm glad you're sticking around to post, I also enjoy your participation. Best of luck on your health.
