It’s an unintended Gestalt.

First impression – buffalo shot out of a cannon

Second impression – Sort of mongrel bloodhound.

Whatever, it’s one of the more interesting hobo nickels I’ve seen for a while.

I definitely saw the dog after adjusting my eye for a moment. Given the greater completeness of the neck and collar area and the crudeness of the scribing around the dogs' ear, it looks like an early stage of an incomplete carved Buffalo nickel.

It is an interesting piece. I am not sure that I am seeing the nice little doggy. What I see appears to be a rabbid elephant seal stuffed in a cannon...

This is one of the most interesting hobo's I've seen. I like how it seems to take a while to see it, but, when you do, it turns out to be very clever.
