Joe Knows defeated Bobby for the championship.

Congrats Joe on your first place finish and $400, and congrats Bobby on taking 2nd and $200.

I'll pay you two on Friday as indicated above. I understand y'all came to an arrangement to split the $600, but I do intend to pay it as mentioned above, $400 to Joe and $200 to Bobby and then y'all can do what you want with it.

Thanks to everyone for an enjoyable, competitive season.

  • Thanks Mike! It was a great league. The only reason I won is because I got lucky. I picked up Vick & Ellis who were night & day improvements over the players I had.

Bobby pm me your email address.

    Best regards!

  • Thanks Mike for running this and thanks also to 14 of the 15 other team owners (excluding the one who quit putting in legit lineups)
This was a fun league and 16 teams made it hard. I could only sit and drool at the waiver wire in my 10 team league compared to the ilk that was left on our wire

Congrats to Joe Knows and all the money finishers!

Watch out for the Rockcats in 2011!!

For those of you that played this year, I'm looking for a little feedback. I'm considering running a higher stakes one next year with either a $100 or $150 buy in. At either of those levels, would you play next year?? If I went up on the entry fee, should I still limit it to 4 payouts or should it be extended to 8?? What, if anything, would you have changed this year about the way it was run?

    Thanks for your opinion,

    Mike

I am a way bigger fan of 12 team leagues because injuries can soo screw you at the end of the season which happens to me everytime.

I would play in a $100 or $150 league next year. I don't like the idea of payouts beyond 4th place no matter what the buyin.

$100 buy in w/ 12 teams paying out 1st to 4th would be perfect for me. image

Just make it so people not in the playoffs can't add players or dump their teams....other than that, anything works for me.

    Mike-
I'd be happier with a 12 team league at around $100 or so. 16 teams is too tough on pickups, imho.

With 12 teams, payout top 3 teams (top 6 make playoffs, weeks 14-16, top 2 teams with byes wk 1, split 6 teams ea in 2 divisions) in combination with the following enhancements..

    1. Split pot 2 ways; half for superbowl, 2nd, 3rd place finishers. Other half for top 3 teams overall point totals through week 16.
    2. Payout $20 per week 1-13 for high score that week.

    So...

    You'll have $1200. Less $260 for 13 weeks of $20 ( = $260). So $940 left to split 2 ways.

    $470 for each split.

Split it $300, $120, $50 for the winners in each category (superbowl, 2nd, 3rd) and top 3 overall point getters through week 16.

I've found that this helps keep gm's interested throughout the season (even if they don't make the playoffs), as anyone can win money on any given week (at least through week 13). Also allows teams some consolation if they get a bad week in the playoffs and get bounced as they still have a shot at yearly pts pot.

I like the idea of a payout each week for top point scorer. I don't like the idea of half the money being paid out to teams based on regular season results. That seems like a lot. Especially since those top teams will be cleaning up on weekly payouts in theory.
  • ndleondleo Posts: 4,150 ✭✭✭✭✭
I agree, 16 is too many teams. A couple of injuries and you're done. 12 max.

I understand. But with 12 teams, there are really enough wins for folks to go around.

In the league I was in this year with these rules, I finished 9-4. I was high scorer only 2 weeks. I finished with second highest points in the league. Finished 2nd in my division to someone else with same record so I didn't get the bye. Got bounced in the first round of the playoffs.

Still received a good payout based on my teams total season points even after finishing 5th overall.

The Top point performer, with an 11-2 regular season record, got a first round bye and then lost in the semis. He ended finishing 4th (out of superbowl money even with his strong team and 11-2 record). But he's got the points pot to fall back on, so it's not that bad of a feeling rolling through the season and then having one bad week that takes you from hero to zero.

    Continuous League Rules

    Draft:
    1. Teams that do not make the playoffs will pick out of the hat for draft spots 1 through 6. (The draft order will be decided before protections are due.)
    2. Teams that make the playoffs will be slotted in spots 7 through 12 depending on how they finish in the playoffs. Slot 7 & 8 (semi-final losers) will be slotted in reverse order via:
    a. Overall record
    b. Head to head match up
    c. Total regular season points
    Protections:
    1. Teams may keep up to two players.
    2. For each player a team keeps they lose a draft pick based on the following:
    a. You lose a pick in the round that is 2 rounds higher then the round in which the player was chosen at last year’s draft.
    i. (example – If you picked Tony Dorsett in the 7th round of the 2003 draft he would cost you a 5th round pick if you protected him for the 2004 season. If he is then protected for the 2005 season he would cost you a 3rd round pick. After that and for as long as he is protected he would cost the protecting team their 1st round pick.)
ii. If because of trades or claims you end up with more than one player that necessitates you giving up the same pick, you must forfeit your pick in the round that is before the pick you would have had to give up. (for example – If you drafted John Riggins in the 6th round of the 2003 draft and traded for Joe Montana who was also drafted in the 6th round of the 2003 draft and you wanted to keep them both you would have to give up your 4th round pick to keep John Riggins and your 3rd round pick to keep Joe Montana.
    b. All free agents or players otherwise not selected at the draft are considered 8th round picks and would cost you a 6th round pick if they where protected.

    Roster Rules

You have 9 starting spots plus 7 reserves.

    These are your limits:

    QB must be 1
    RB min 2 max 3
    WR min 2 max 3
    TE min 1 max 2
    K min 1 max 2
    Def must be 1

Translation - your flex player can be a RB, WR, TE or K. It can not be a QB or a Def.

    Waiver List

The waiver wire DOES NOT reset every week. It is set based on last years results (same order as draft) and you only move down when you claim someone.

    Tie-Breakers for Games

a - During the regular season games will end in a TIE, no tie breaker will be used.
b - During the playoffs and game the ends in a TIE will use the highest scoring STARTER as a tie breaker, then the second highest and so on.

    Best regards!

Most money leagues only pay out three prizes, so I think four is more than enough. It's nice to do well in the regular season and all, but teams that win at least one game in the postseason are the ones who deserve to be in the money, IMO.

I personally enjoyed the 16-team format, and truth be told, plenty of star players emerged from free agency over the course of the season to fill out a roster. Did anyone draft Peyton Hillis? Or even Mike Vick? Picking up the right free agents in season is what separates the better teams from the also rans.

And we definitely need a commitment for every participant that he will set his lineup at least with active players even after his team is eliminated. And if a team is no longer playing, that person should NOT have the ability to pick up and/or drop players.

Edit to say: Mike )The Navarro) did a great job running the league this year, and with a couple of exceptions, everything went smooth as can be expected. I'm looking forward to next season already!

FFL's rarely function well as a democracy - Mike did a great job running the league. He should make whatever changes he feels prudent, as we all would probably request a different tweak. That said, three payouts are enough for me and one of the espn fantasy bloggers had a good way to keep people involved in wk 17. Everyone but the league winner has a shot at $100 in wk 17 -- all teams must use a full lineup, but the intention is to have the 6th highest score in wk 17. Whoever comes in 6th gets the money. The weaker teams can make it, and the better teams must strategize to score less. Novel but definitely interest generating.

keep it the way it is and up the entry to $500, imo.
  • I say reduce to 12 teams. Raise entry to $100. 6 teams may the playoffs with top two seeds getting a bye. Pay $100 to best regular season record. Then pay the top 3 something like $600, $300, $200...
  • Bosox is on to something - 16 cooks in the kitchen is a lot . So I'll not offer any advice except for it would be nice to have something weekly for the high score so that teams that either drafted poorly or had injuries still have something to play for. And what ever you decide, I don't think you'll encounter any fierce opposition.

The amount of teams, entry fee, scoring rules aren't that important to me -- and I am already waiting for next years league. I got me the post-fantasy blues!
