Phils could have picked up a game on the stinkin' Braves if the Mets had won.

Can't your team get a win when I need them to?

Not against the ATL. But overall, I thought tonight's game was pretty sloppy. Not sure if it was 100 degrees and everybody was just worn out or what, but that was sloppy baseball. Ike Davis fields a hard bunt with a runner on first, he looks down to second with an ETERNITY to make the through, then he has a brain fart and just lobs it over to 1st instead of turning 2. Also, Escobar lost one in the lights about 2 seconds after he called off 2 outfielders that could have made the play.

Also, I liked watching Melky absolutely crush that knuckleball from Dickey. Melky has no power, but he jacked that ball out with authority. Too bad he starting spinning his hands around making a HR motion while he rounded first while staring into the Mets dugout. Even though Melky is a Brave now, I thought the HR antics showed a lack of class. If he had come up through the Braves system, he would know better than to do stupid crrap like that.

It's like he saves up his strength or something. He's hit 3 this year but every one of them has been a real blast.

Santana was pitching. History shows Atlanta doesn't hit well against him. But I'll gladly take our 4 game lead into the break!!! image

Back to back stellar shutout outings by Santana...Beltran on his way back to the lineup...I see a very exciting and successful 2nd half..keep that seat on top warm Atlanta...we're coming to get it!!

LOL. I hope so.. Who are you going to sit in a playoff series so that Lilly gets a start? You gonna sit Santana, Neise, or Pelfrey? No way- they all get 2 starts each in a 7 game series. Call me crazy, but I've put Lilly as the #4 in that rotation which means he'd pitch no more than once in any playoff series. Prior to the trade deadline, every penny the Mets spend on any position other than bullpen makes me a happy Braves fan. Othewise, the SPs will have to go 8 innings every start for the rest of the season. 5th - 7th inning from the current bullpen is AA quality.

What happened to the second place Mets?

I just looked and I don't see them there no more.

WEll, according to your method of baseball analysis, I can perceive that the Mets are still in 2nd place, and that makes it so, which is great! Why are you looking solely on the stats of a won-loss record anyway? There's so much more than that!

I guess the Mets fooled some of their fans into believing they wouldn't swoon this season. The Mets have about as much chance of winning the World Series this season as Rosie O'Donnell winning the Miss America contest.

<<< I can perceive that the Mets are still in 2nd place, and that makes it so, which is great! >>>

That is incorrect. One should never "perceive" that when their team is behind in the loss column. Your thought could be perceived correctly if their team is behind in the win column because perhaps they haven't played as many games, and so a team can make up ground in wins themselves...but they can't make up ground in losses themselves - that is impossible.

My above remarks weren't perception, they were facts, it was reality...a team cannot make up ground in the loss column unless they get help from the other team losing, so factually the Mets being a 1/2 game behind in the loss column should not be perceived as being tied with the Phillies for second place if ya properly understand the workings of baseball standings. I realize you understand this, but you inadvertantly misspoke in your post, and I simply duly corrected you.

    You're welcome.

Hey...you know I'm just bustin' chops, which I happen to enjoy doing to Mets fans. image

And I look forward to doing it to Braves fans when the Phillies pass them in the standings. LOL

All I know is on June 18th they were 39 and 27 or 8 today they are 48 and 43.

9 and 15 is not even 400 ball.

Please Tim I beg you, change the title of this thread, maybe something like:

Official Mets 2010 race to the WS. The thread as it stands sounds as if it was a done deal.

I know, I know this thread can't possibly be a reason, BUT it ain't a coincidence either!

At this rate they will end up below 500.

I am very superstitious, just ask anyone that has ever played softball with me!

I know ... I know ... we will look at Steve's PERCEPTION of things ... since they both have the same amount of losses, DA PHILLIES are really tied with the Mets, right? HAHAHA

  • Really don't understand why everyone thinks the Mets need pitching? They can't hit! Putting Luis Castillo back in the 2 hole makes no sense. They should bat Angel Pagan 2nd, Jason Bay 3rd, and David Wright cleanup. Trade frenchy and get what they can for him. They must have a decent 4th outfielder in the minors. They are wasting good starting pitching with their punchless offense. image

What's the Vegas over/under on how many games the Mets will be out of first place by the end of the season?

I'm gonna guess 9 games...and Mets fans will be so happy that their team only lost by 9 games, that while there probably wouldn't be a parade, there may be some mild celebrating. If the Mets windup only 9 games out, Mets fans would consider that to be a very successful season.

Guys ... I made my debut at Citifield today ... Man, the METS SUCK!

HOWEVER, that is one beautiful ballpark. My friend got some AMAZING tickets ... Section 18, row 14 ... by home plate ... even the concourse on that level is AWESOME! He invited three of us to go with him free of charge. Leather seats ... waitress service ... face value, even at a DIAMONDBACKS game, was about $250.00. Fun to go to, but I would NEVER pay that amount to see a game! Even got my free "HALL OF FAME METS HAT".
