Opinions wanted on this Pan-Pac for Quarterly Special?

Thinking of sending this one in for Quarterly submission.

Do you think it will + or upgrade.
Currently in a PCGS MS63

Looks 64 to me but didn't upgrade in 2008.

Maybe it will just make the next grade an not a +

I thought it would grade MS64 last time. I can't see what kept it at 63.

Anyone familiar with this coin that can see why it didn't upgrade?

Old eyes can't see these little coins.

Hard to say... looks as if it could go 64 (judging from a screen picture is tough)..., but, 63 does not seem out of the question, thin line of demarcation there. Cheers, RickO

The coin has that dark look on the cap, cheek and jaw that this type can get. I've seen Pan-Pac dollars with that get grades as low as MS-62.

If you get the MS-64, the Gray Sheet price (which is now a decent estimate for these coins that are now out of favor) jumps from $600 in 63 to $830 in 64. It does not seem like it's worthwhile to me to go for the upgrade.

Here an MS-64 graded coin from my collection:

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Thanks, I looked at some other 64's and like yours they have a much better "look" so maybe it was that darker look that makes it a 63.

I have a 1910 D that might be a better candidate for the quarterly special.

    Whiskers.
  • It probably wont get the upgrade @ pcgs.

It's safe enough where it is. I think it's properly graded and the old holder will give it nostalgia.

Good looking coin. I love the Pan-Pac. Looks like at least a "+" to me...

    Thanks for all the comments.

I will look for a better candidate.

I think its maxed out. Looks like a lot of chatter on the high points. Especially the face and hat.
