Post a Shield 5c from your collection; and, if you don't mind, tell us what kind of set it belongs to, e.g., Shield, type, denomination, error, pattern, etc. I'll start us off with one from my non-variety Shield set.

The only set it belongs to is the "get as many date/mintmark varieties I can afford" set.
I THINK it's an 1868.
If anyone has an example of the 1867 triple punch date, please post.

Are asking about this variety, which was once thought to be a TPD, but has been shown to be a sm/lg date?
I know. It's crazy!

<< <i>Marks are on the holder. I need to take a better picture. Just haven't taken the time.

I'd like to see some better images DAM, it looks like a keeper to me!
Will be going in for a reholder soon, slab is very scuffy.

The amature with no die cracks (that I can see), HAH!
<< <i>IGWT - Maybe I am mistaken. What I thought I saw in an auction a few years ago was labeled as such, but I recall that the 7 was prominently doubled to the North. Either way, your posted information on the linked coin is very intriguing! Thanks! >>
I looked through my files, and from your description this sounded like the likeliest candidate. But it is not a tripled date - just dramatically doubled. If you can provide more information I'll take another look at the files.

As far as what set it belongs to,
(Don't know what that is under the 7 in the date, but it's not another 7.)

That is one sweet, sweet piece, Howard. I'd place it in your subset of contemporary counterfeits!

Within a month after starting this thread, my friend, Lou/IGWT, was no longer with us.
<< <i>Was never able to reply to IGWT's post until now - here's to you, buddy. >>
Wow, that's a good post...and seriously sad.
