The cliff notes version; I had a good time and if possible, you should go.

Rather than wait a half hour plus to get in when the show opened, I had a very pleasant breakfast with Bear and his wife at the nearby hotel. He was kind enough to show me some coins he was selling that day.

On the other side of the coffee shop's window is the hotel pool. A mallard duck was swimming in the pool, acting like / she owned the place. Then it got out of the pool and was staring at us when we were eating. Weird.

We went to the show. He went to Legend, and I walked the floor. Pinnacle did not have a table this time, and I didn't see Mike Printz, either. There seemed to be something for almost everyone. There were more Buffalo Nickels being offered than normal. Ditto re Seated Dollars in mid circulated grades to MS 63. There were plenty of Trade Dollars available in XF to MS 64, as well as lower to mid graded circulated Bust Dollars.

Some of the Duckor registry set Barber Halves were available for viewing at the Heritage table. In general, Barber material was available in all denominations and in all grades. The priciest Barber coin I saw was an 02 O Half in a PC 5 holder. The usual suspects, ie., Morgans, Gold, Lincolns, Walkers and Mercs., were plentiful.

I didn't find much I was looking for. Liberty Nickels in PC 6 were scarce. I already had one of almost all of the dates I saw on the floor. One of a date I didn't have appeared to be doctored, another one was still in a dealer's case 18 months + after when I first saw it there, and the last one was almost 'there,' except I didn't like a small carbon spot below Miss Liberty's chin, so I passed on it, though it was properly graded.

SLQs in PC 6 were also scarce, though plenty of 6s without a full head were available. A very nice 23 P was a bit too pricey for me, and I almost pulled the trigger on a 25 P, except a small carbon spot on the reverse made me decide to pass. I saw a very nice one @ the Heritage auction on which I put a bid, and will find out either late tonight or tomorrow whether I got the coin.

There were a few Heraldic Eagle Bust $s available in AU. One was cleaned, another dipped and stripped, and a few had funky color. There was one @ the Heritage auction was original, solid for the grade, but the luster was a bit subdued for my tastes.. I saw an original one on the floor which was imo overgraded and overpriced. The last one I saw was very attractive for the grade, but I thought the price was too high, so I pased on it.

I enjoyed catching up with Mark Feld and Truthteller, both of whom were helpful, and informative, as usual. I also want to Thank Jim Stoutjestyk of Heritage. He is always very helpful, candid, and gracious when I have questions about coins.

It's my understanding that most dealers that did not have tables at this show where present, but representing clients at auction instead.

Did you make a special note of where the nicer AU-MS seated dollars were located in preparation of my usual question? image
