How many people either actively or passively have you influenced to start stacking?

tydyetydye Posts: 3,894 ✭✭✭
Recently my father-in-law has been giving me his AC "winnings" and asking me to buy PMs for him. I never actually told him to do so but he knows I do. At work a few of my co-workers have started after they noticed me checking Kitco a lot.

The only person I have actively tried to convince is my one brother. But he has no interest. However I am godfather to his one daughter and most holidays/birthdays I give her some metal (along with something fun of course)

There are at least 3 people who have any metal at all because of me. There may be others who have begun to stack clandestinely as well.

Start Stacking? Zero .... however, as an alternative to stocks or real estate ....several ... (buy low on the dips, sell on the highs) PM's are just another avenue to make a potential buck to me. Cash will always be King. I do not subscribe to the SHTF scenario PM hoarding.

3,800+ different types of "cash" have become extinct in the time of humans. Including several U.S. issues. All paper money will return to zero if given enough time, for that is their intrinsic value. Anything that can be so easily created and manipulated is surely meant for suckers. You arent a sucker, are ya?

Nor am I - I am 20% stacker. Have other diverse investments as well. But this one tends to get my attention because lately it seems to be working and plus it is fun

I've been told that one day we'll all convert to either a one credit card or implanted buying device scenario, so if that's true, cash
will not be king then. How one's value is determined then is anybody's guess.

I do not subscribe to the SHTF scenario either. I believe people will always be buying and selling, getting married, and building houses.

I believe the best investments are in your children, and in your physical and mental/spiritual health.

PM's are easily manipulated by the paper markets, and they always will be as long as the banks get to continue to control the world.

I have not influenced anyone to start stacking, nor do I intend to. It's my own personal hobby (10-20% wealth), and I don't want
anyone outside my family to know about it. I'm not on a mission here to make any converts.

Yeah, and so have numerous items that at one time were considered more valuable than Gold...like Aluminum, Steele and Salt, just to mention a few. Give it time, Gold may follow in the same footsteps.
You keep salting away, that's you choice, I'll keep on cashing in profits while the going is hot.

You are correct on both counts. Other things HAVE been more valuable than gold, but with 5,000 years of track record, I see nothing currently that will displace gold as the true "king of money". You are also correct to take advantage (if you are able) of the market in a way to add to your financial worth. Im simply saying that when the music stops....and it certainly will stop....you would be a tremendous fool to have a large portion of your value in paper currency. Cash is NOT king of anything other than maybe the king of a well thought out scam aimed at robbing you of your wealth while being protected under the guise of being government approved. If the government proclaims bags of doggy doo doo to have a set value, would you start to save piles of doggy doo doo? No? Then why do you advocate doing the same with a piece of paper that costs 6 cents to produce yet is claimed to have $100 worth of value?

I heard that scenario as far back as the early 70's and it's true, that plastic has become the primary choice of conducting everyday business, but I have my doubts that anyone of us will be around for the "implanted buying device scenario," which btw reminds me a little bid of Orwell's 1984. I still believe, that for the foreseeable future....cash will remain King.

Jimmy Carter influenced me to start stacking when the inflation rate hit double digits.

I showed a friend of mine some silver eagles and 10 oz silver bars about 6 months ago. He had a ton of money in the stock market and pulled out half to start his stack. He passed me up so fast it wasn't even funny. I think his pile includes around 1500 ozs of silver, 10 ozs of gold bullion/buffalo coins and around 10 ozs of platinum in 2006-2008 W Plat sets. I think he has around $60K in PMs now!!! I see him at our local dog park at least 2-3 times a week and all we talk about is PMs. We are both still stacking too!

I've also bought my brother a few 10 oz silver bars for X-mas and his B-day lately. He wants to get into it, but, doesn't have the extra cash to stack right now.

    +1 - My words exactly!

I'd have to say a passive 2 people that have taken a slow interest, and one firm that is dabbling in etf's now because of me.

right now, in my household, it's just me. When I buy gold my wife treats it as though it's a hobby. I can't tell how many times I've told her this is a future investment for our later years where we'd cash a little in each month like any retirement. The way things are going she seems to be cracking and understanding my point. I'm stacking somewhat slow, but steady. If she finally gets sold out like me and sees my POV then look out. We'll be stacking A LOT quicker. Being a woman she'll have that "protect the nest" mentality and every spare dollar will go into some metal.

Be very carful with influencing people to buy anything,
I remember days when people were ready to shoot themselves for spending their hard working money on shiny useless metals,
Well there's some use to them, but you see my point...
    When I don't collect coins...
    I build high end houses
  • One person really influenced me to start buying PMs but I am not a real stacker. I do not buy PM's for SHTF. Curiosity got the best of me after I heard Ron Paul mention gold and silver in late 2006. After I heard him mention gold and silver, I did a google search to learn what gold and silver was. Since I was new to PM's, I originally started out in Jan. 2007 as a bullion stacker (mainly silver) buying SAE's, Generic rounds, Engelhard Prospectors, etc. but in August 2008 I started to turn into a silver art bar collector and started collecting silver art bars. I sold all of my regular gold and silver (i.e SAE's, Engelhard Prospectors, etc) and used the proceeds to buy silver art bars.

No one influenced me to buy silver art bars in 2008 because I did not know anybody that bought silver art bars and I do not think that anybody in my area collected silver art bars. It was a coin show in August 2008 in Georgia that influenced me and got me started into seriously buying silver art bars and from that point, I got hooked on them ever since that coin show in August 2008.

In the true sense, I am not a real stacker but Ron Paul influenced me to at least look into PM's which lead me to buying generic gold and silver which ultimately lead me to becoming a silver art bar collector.
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a '70's silver art bar expert but I try my best to play one on the Internet.
