I'm guessing the 520 was a typo and was supposed to be 52

Sure, $520 could have been a typo, but somebody else bid right under them. This may be a case of two bidders really wanting it. So each one puts an extreme bid in thinking that they will win it for no more than $75. Just happens that two individuals thought the same way.

I think it was a buy it now. I don't see any explanation but a mistake. Or I wish I had been the seller!!

Not in this case...this was a BIN for $520. I suspect this sale was voided via mutual consent.

  • Yeah that $520 was way too high of a price IMO. Gecko109's link that shows $65.95 appears to be a better deal but with sterling it is hard to tell. If it was .999 instead of sterling, then that $65.95 price would be an even better deal IMO. Silver art bars sell very well on ebay. $6-$15 over spot silver is a common winning ebay bid for silver art bars especially 1970's silver art bars based on ebay auctions that I have seen. There were some '70's silver art bars that sold for $100's of dollars on ebay before. It just depends on the "rarity" of the art bars as well as supply and demand for certain silver art bars. I prefer to buy silver art bars locally at my local dealers and at coin shows because I can get those art bars for between $0.75 to $3.00 over spot silver. The silver art bars that I can buy locally at coin shows and at local coin dealers for between $0.75 to $3.00 over spot silver are the same silver art bars that usually sell for between $6-$15 over spot silver on ebay.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a '70's silver art bar expert but I try my best to play one on the Internet.

You've been fortunate. So far, the only ones I've seen, that are offered by coin dealers for slightly over spot, are the same ones that sell for slightly over melt on eBay ($1.50 - $2.00). You're not going to get the same bargain from a dealer that has some experience in Art Bars,( most don't) or someone who specializes in that field.

Yeah that is very true OPA. The dealers that have experience in selling silver art bars will price them accordingly and they will price them at a much higher premium than the "normal" premium for .999 generic silver. IMO it is best to buy silver art bars from coin dealers who just treat them as generic .999 silver and don't care about "rarity" value. For me, the local coin shows seem to be the best place for me to buy silver art bars for a low premium over spot silver.
