I have never heard of this before today. Very disturbing indeed. Apparently its becoming a very well known technique to get into people's homes easily. Do you guys see this as a serious problem, or just another media scare tactic? Im considering laying down a decent amount of cash to have all 8 of my locks replaced. Will you be doing the same?

Security 110 lb Cheasapeake that does not take kindly to strangers. Plus I live next to a firehall which I like especially living in an older house. And except for a week or two worth of recent purchases nothing of notable value is here.
As far as home invasion without detection, windows are the easiest followed by sliding glass doors. Sliding glass doors take a lot of time whereas the windows are done in seconds. If you have been specifically targeted then upgrading locks won't matter much.

Although the 2 above members have heard about this, its brand new news to me! And I bet alot of our members were not aware of this either.

FWIW, I had not heard about it in the criminal context.
Yesterday I was chatting with a neighbor about motion detector flood lights. He was looking at a solar powered unit. I suggested that since it's for security purposes and not just for letting the dogs out that he would be better off going with a hard wired unit instead- just in case.
And then it dawned on me...
This guy has a three car garage but four cars. One is always parked in the driveway all night. Guess what is on the visor?
Garage door opener.

Guns for protection of your home are rarely of any use while the house is empty, but I do have a couple of "lead dispersal" units here for the times when me or the wife ARE at home!

Replace your locks with Schlage and the problem is solved.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I knew it would happen.
...yeah, if the bad low life's want in, they'll have a solution. vermin have quite a bit of determination if they
feel the place is worth busting in.
Not quite, professionals can "cut" a key to any lock in a few minutes with a small file and a blank key. Ask the Watergate burglars.

Unfortunately it already resides in my house. As does the bird whose name is "forbidden".
My son old the pic with his camera. Hes an optimist, always looking to the future. LOL

Yep... this is quite easy... though you also need a 'marking pen'.... Cheers, RickO
I really, really hope that it was staged.

I doubt it was staged. Notice that he is wearing an ATF cap?

I had this done two years ago when I locked myself out and the local locksmith was able to open my door in 30 secs with no effort at all. Wow was that an eye opener. I had all the locks upgraded with pump and pick proof locks and had interal only dead bolts installed for when we are at home. If they really want to get in they will, but damn it I am not going to make it easy for them!
