Perhaps reward money can be raised like it was for Julian. I sure hope those responsible are caught and the coins returned.

Was the vehicle unattended while hitting a rest stop or something?
That kind of inventory, wouldn't leave my sight. I'll do the #1 in a cup or plastic bottle.
I would have someone along for the ride for sure, 2 is better than one.
Sorry to hear, hope the perps are apprehended, and the coins returned to the owner.

I agree, with that expensive inventory, it would seem worthwhile to hire armed security to ride along.

I spoke with Lano earlier. He was obviously targeted and followed. I am very glad that no personal harm came to him or his family as these guys seemed to be deteremined to rob him.

That's shocking and sad news. Lano has set up at the monthly Auburn, MA show for many years. Always a gentleman. His material is mostly earlier 19th century (and 18th c.) high collector grade material. I remember when he bought that 1804 XF dime at CoinFest. This type of material is highly sought after both raw and slabbed and obviously very distinctive. It would be hard to sell that material in the northeast/New England area without somewhat recognizing the source. Hopefully the crooks get nabbed trying to sell the stuff.

How very awful! Thankfully, he was not hurt. Sure hope the perps blunder early and that a complete recovery is had, and soon!!!!
  • I do hope the coins are returned and the robbers caught. That's just low down wrong. All the dealers and pawn shops need to be on the look out.

It's very dangerous out there, for sure.

This is a prime example of why coins should be insured.

Instincts would point to the fact that someone knew
(probably someone CLOSE to the Owner) staked him out &
planned this out. This does not appear to be a random "hit"!

The bright side IS that the certified coins have a shot at
being recovered because they bear cert #s provided 1) they are
not cracked out & 2) if all these have been duly reported & recorded
with all local "dealers" being made aware so they can keep an eye out.

If you have reported this to the local authories, all dealers & pawn shops -
say, within a 100 mile radius, providing them all with the info posted here,
you have a very good shot at recovering all if not most of them.

Terrible News indeed! Quite devastating - but there IS Hope. image

It may help to print a copy of the items stolen and anyone on the east coast could bring that copy to their local dealers or pawn shops.

If these were all cracked out they would be very hard to successfully recover.
Sorry to hear of the loss. We will keep our eyes peeled here in IL but anyone who took time to target him and plan this out likely had an avenue for liquidation already lined up.

    Terrible news.

As an aside, I look forward to the day that PCGS does the laser scan for all their coins, and that eventually we will be able to ID a stolen coin, even if it's been cracked out.

Best wishes for recovering these coins, and bringing these creeps to justice.

    STEAL THE COIN(S)

WAIT FOR THE REWARD TO GROW

TURN YOURSELF IN AS WELL AS THE COIN

    COLLECT THE REWARD

    HAVE OWNER DROP THE CHARGES.
