Thats what it took me to finish a complete 15 card T206 "basic backs" set. This set represents 1 of each of the 15 tobacco brands that distributed these cards back in 1909-1911. Obviously missing from the set is the Cobb back, and its not here for 2 reasons. First, I do not consider it even a part of the T206 series as it was not printed, or distibuted like the other 15 brands. Also, its the only brand to feature just 1 subject. Lastly, 12 of the 14 known specimens have a glossy finish on the front of the card....none of the other T206's display this unique characteristic. The other reason its not included is, quite frankly, I have no desire to spend $25,000+ on a baseball card. My threshhold so far on a single card is $2500 for the Drum in this collection. Thats about as high as im currently willing to go, but things may change. Enjoy!
P.S.- About an hour before making this thread, I had negotiated on a wonderful Uzit back to upgrade the dreadful one you see here. I wont have it in hand for another couple of weeks though.

<< <i>Those're nice! You should crop 'em and make 'em all the same size. Makes for nicer viewing. Well done, though! >>
You interested in a job? I can take sharp, up close photos of each card if you have the smarts to crop them and put them all in a line, from rarest to most common. Would look GREAT in my sigline! Let me know.

Don't know if you can stuff all 15 into a CU compliant sigline and retain enough detail to matter?

I've actually thought about doing that set, but I try to stick with my basketball, but thats something to definetly look into in the future.

Well, to me, and most of the free world, the $5,500 I have put into this set over the 4 month span would be considered a fairly decent amount of scratch. Not life changing, but not peanuts either. Perhaps thats nothing compared to your card budget, but its all relative I suppose.

I was just wondering. I have no idea how much that set is worth. I thought maybe it was in the hundreds of thousands or something when you said deep pockets.

Thats the problem concerning "cost" in general. There are members here who may think that $200 is alot of money for a baseball card, and there are others who think $5,000 is chump change for a baseball card. For my specific situation, $5,500 is alot of money for baseball cards, but I have spent 5 figures on multiple occassions on gold bullion purchases without even flinching. So its all relative.
Next, you should get the regular Old Mill back, along with the American Beauty (with border) and Red Hindu.
Then, you can go for the different series/factory designations.

I have the OM regular and the AB350 with frame and without frame. In fact, I have another 7-10 cards with different backs that I didnt post here. There are a total of 38 different backs counting all the varieties. The 15 posted here is the "basic" set, or 1 example from each brand. It is my goal to complete 36 of those 38 backs.....im ommiting the Cobb back, and the blank backs. I dont think either belongs in the set personally. Thanks for the compliments though!!!
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
If so Id check out the thread on Net 54.

I sincerely thank you for the offer. Member TNP did this for me about an hour ago or so....he did a phenomenal job!
I only own one T206 and it's in my Senators/Twins collection. It's a German Schaeffer with a Sweet Caporal back. Is that one of the most common backs?? I haven't studied the tobacco cards enough to know what's rare and what isn't...
Good luck with completing your goal of 36 different backs...

I agree with you about the Cobb back and blank back. I'm also working on the set, and am currently at around 51%. I've also got at least one of each of the following backs:
El Principe de Gales
Old Mill
Old Mill (Southern League)
Piedmont 150
Piedmont 350
Piedmont 350-460
Polar Bear
Sovereign 150
Sovereign 350
Sweet Caporal 150
Sweet Caporal 350
Sweet Caporal 350-460
Tolstoi
I'm not planning on getting all the different factories, but who knows.....once (and if) I actually get a Drum, Lenox, Uzit, Broadleaf, Carolina Brights and the two Hindu backs, I might decide I want to keep going.
Good luck in your quest for completion

Great looking collection! It's cool to see them all together like that.
Certainly not trying to pee in the pool, so I hope you take this in the manner it is intended...but I think it would look just a step cooler if the cards were rescanned with the scanner lid open (dark background). Some of those softer corners add a TON of character, IMO, and it would be cool to see them as they are on this single image. Just my opinion, of course.

<< <i>the American Beauty looks as wide as the others- is it? they are typically narrower. >>
I wish it was...that would be an amazing find, especially on a 460! Its as narrow as any other AB card I own at right about 35mm. The average T206 is right around 37-38mm.

Very cool and in alphabetical order for those like me who know almost nothing about T206's.

Yes, it's narrower. When I was cropping & resizing them, I made them all the exact same size - I'm a little weird like that.

Average U.S. household income for 2007 was $50,233. Data for 2009 is obviously not available yet. My household income in 2009 was $173,000. I find it amusing that a forum member with 18 posts thus far would even post garbage such as your post. I also find it amusing that you think you know my finances because of my job title.

BTW, nice cards.

<< <i>86K for a physical therapist? What activities exactly are included in those sessions? >>
What do physical therapists make where you live.....in Chicago its from $75-$90k WITHOUT any overtime. If we didnt have a kid, my wife would make enough money for me to be too embarrassed to even talk about! She turns down well over $400/week just in overtime alone so she can spend more time with us. Thats a decision I encouraged her to make. Nothing more important than time with family.
