<< <i>What's the point of the half-dollar anymore? >>
In 1857, the 1 cent coin, also the smallest denomination, was worth about a half dollar in today's currency. That was the year they got rid of the 1/2 cent. A move equivalent to discontinuing the quarter today.
I think they should make it green, it should be biodegradable. As it deteriorates it assumes the shape of a suppository with appropriate directions inscribed. Sorry, just in a bad mood today.
B-52 with cruise missiles on one side, and CVN aircraft carrier on the other. Make it a rotating series with actual good stuff: M1 Abrams, B-52, Attack Sub, B-2, Cobra attack helicopter, Space Shuttle, AV-8 Harrier...
If they do a new half, I'd love to see Liberty back on.. something like that would be great these days. Reagan should be on currency; replace Andrew Jackson ASAP.
The State Quarters were such a hit I think they should do a Commemorative Counties Half Dollar Series. Over 3100 of them nation wide. Could be great for collectors.
We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.
First of all, I think they should bring back the Half-Cent. The obverse should be an image of Richard Gere and the reverse should be an image of a gerbil (hey, Canadian coins have images of animals on their coins, we should get with the program).
The obverse of the new half dollar should have the Eunice Shriver image from her Special Olympics Coin. The reverse should have the image of Susan B. Anthony from her Dollar. Smart people will put away a few uncirculated rolls. Believe me, these coins will circulate, because no one will want to look at them, and therefore, get rid of them as quickly as possible.
"Vou invadir o Nordeste, "Seu cabra da peste, "Sou Mangueira......."
My recommendation would certainly be to stop putting dead guys on the coinage. This is sickening. Let's return to art on our coinage, what we have now is either dead dudes or commercial advertisements (with a few exceptions such as the Sacagawea). Cheers, RickO

Any New Half Dollar will have Martin Luther King on it.
I guarantee that One Hundred Percent.

50 Cent the rapper <> MLK
but
just as an FYI..... "50 Cent" is a natural born business talent. He has made more money in the "Vitamin Water" brand than he has making music. I saw him on CNBC and he is intelligent and articulate on business matters....
Yes, as he admits, some of his first biz experience was in dealing drugs, but he has gone straight and I'd believe it after hearing the guy talk.
He's no "some dude that raps" type person. (watch the cnbc video)
Plus....
It's not like "50 Cent" hasn't appeared on a coin elsewhere....

If inflation can be 3%-4% during the most recent commodities bubble (gas soaring... food prices soaring... etc)
Then it might just always linger 3%-4% whether reality says otherwise. The gov't sure loves keeping those rates low.... maybe it's all the debt they have to keep refinancing.

I know that this is the first serious answer, but Ronald Reagan would be good.
