Ever wonder if buyers read descriptions fully or just the title of the auction....

I love listings like this that say something like "1967 Baseball Set" in the title and then in small print say that it contains x amount of cards. This particular one and all of this sellers listings has a book value for the entire set listed yet all of his "sets" contain less than a third of the cards in the set. I think someone is in for a big disappointment.

1967 "set"

Comments

  • That is pretty scumbaggy. Everything about that title and description implies he is selling a complete set except the words "203 cards".

That is very shady. The worst part is he list the price for a complete set to fool you. I would bet anything that the Mantle or Mays are not in his "set". I think I will ask him.

I just asked if the Mantle and Mays are included. We will see what he says.

I'm quite certain the Mantle isn't part of it because he specifically lists and pictures the Mantle in all of his other partial sets that have it included.

I can see having a title that makes you open it, but that is just asking for trouble.
  • Pretty safe bet the Mantle and Mays aren't in there. 99 of the 203 cards are pictured, and the biggest star I see is Jim Kaat.

Basically, someone just paid 914 bucks for a couple hundred NM '67 commons. Hope it's a hell of a nice binder.

OK, I'm just cranky enough tonight to report it. Done.

Side note - Why TF does Ebay give you such a small number of characters to explain your report?

I don't even think they were NM. They look more in the EX+ range just like all of his other auctions in the "vintage collection". He does give a NM book price though, lol.

No, someone bid $900 for that. There's still hope they catch the foolishness before they pay

Pretty sure it's already in the recycling bin. Nice feedback though, bid with confidence if you're buying a pinball machine off of this guy.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

  • If u are to stupid NOT to read the description, well u deserve it. More power to the seller. I bet alot of people wish it was their listing.
I just get P.O anymore I describe the item exactly and end up with low bids and no money, and then there are idiots like this that describe an item with a little deception and wow 900 bucks for a bunch of commons. I can't believe how many times idiots like this get away with this crap, but more power to them, I have listed items on the BST and got no response then list them on Ebay and get 20 to 50 % more then what I was asking on the BST boards.

I think alot of the crying is wishing it was your listing. as barnum & bailey said one born every minute.

Sorry I have about lost all pity for idiot buyers like this. We all started collecting somewhere and we all have been burned one time or another so everyone pays for their education , just some people pay more. JMHO

PS: ( wish it was my 67 topps 203 card set) (opps i read the description 203 cards).

Agreed. If I am bidding $900 on something you better believe I want to know all about it. The seller clearly states 203 cards. Is it deceptive? Yes. But is it there where you can clearly see it? Yep. So, the bidder is a moron.

yes, very misleading in a number of ways...condition, listing "set" value when it's not the set...I didn't spend much time looking at it further...another weasel seller on ebay.

    Ain't that the truth! LOL

I would imagine if it was added up - there might be more "estate sales" for cards on ebay per year than actual deaths in the United States per year. LOL

The seller got back to me. The only Mays card in his "set" is the leader card and the Mantle is not included.

That is an absolute joke. One need only look at the seller's feedback score to know enough to stay away. (My apologies to anyone out here with a similiarly low score.)

WalterSobchak said it best with, "Basically, someone just paid 914 bucks for a couple hundred NM '67 commons. Hope it's a hell of a nice binder."

A more appropriate word would have been 'lot'

Maybe the seller is ignorant of the term?

This goes back to the listing of PSA cards with qualifiers that has been much talked about here.

Description says "xxxx card PSA 9." Don't mention the qualifier in the body of the listing...just rely on you to look at the pictures. Scumbaggy!!

A one... two-- A one... two... three... four...
    Half a bee, philosophically,
Must, ipso facto, half not be.
But half the bee has got to be
Vis a vis, its entity. D'you see?

But can a bee be said to be
Or not to be an entire bee
When half the bee is not a bee
    Due to some ancient injury?

    Singing...

La dee dee, one two three,
    Eric the half a bee.
    A B C D E F G,
    Eric the half a bee.

    Is this wretched demi-bee,
    Half-asleep upon my knee,
    Some freak from a menagerie?
No! It's Eric the half a bee!

Fiddle de dum, Fiddle de dee,
    Eric the half a bee.
Ho ho ho, tee hee hee,
    Eric the half a bee.

    I love this hive, employee-ee,
    Bisected accidentally,
    One summer afternoon by me,
    I love him carnally.

    He loves him carnally,
    Semi-carnally.
    The end.

    Cyril Connelly?
    No; semi-carnally!
    Oh.

    Cyril Connelly.

Of course it's on the buyer to carefully read every bit of info on an auction, especially at that price, but IMO there is no honest reason for the way in which his auctions are structured/worded.

    SIX TIMES.
