Koalas

I ordered a few Koalas. Anyone here collect Australian silver? It seems like they're better priced than Silver Maple Leafs or Silver Pandas.

I LOVE them but find they have nasty premiums.

I've collected Australian silver for quite a few years. (1 oz koalas and kooks). Most recently I started collecting the 10 oz versions of the koalas, kooks, and tigers. These are stunning to look at and feel in your hand. Do not own any perth mint gold though.
  • I just got this one in the mail today

I paid $25 for 3 different Koalas. The Pandas are priced $27-29 for 09 10 ones. Prior dates are even more expensive. I guess the Maple Leafs are about the same price or slightly less. $22 for the new ones..my error.

The sets are nice too. Usually serial numbered and limited to 5000 sets or less

But please, share your source that's cheaper than Maples on Aussie silver...!!!! I'll buy all day long at premiums less than Maples.
  • DrBuster, nice! How thick is that 10oz.? I just can't bring myself to buy one when I see the cost of a 10 oz. bar along side it. I is sweet though. I did cave and have a 5oz. Libertad on the way.

I have a couple Kooks I picked up in the early 90's. Last year I got back into Kook's and added the Koala's. I also got the set from the Brisbane coin show (2000 sets sold outside the show). I think I'll pick up one of each every year, just for fun. Not getting the new comers, Kangaroo's or tigers though, my funds for cutie, furry animals has been set.

  • Here's the 10 oz Kookaburra thickness. Quite hefty indeed. Very fun "coin"

The 10oz Koala was one of the first pieces of silver bullion I bought. They are VERY beautiful but for my needs, I found them a bit bulky and took up too much storage space.

tdizzle showed the kook, same thickness.

And yeah the premiums are up there, but I had to have it - gave myself an early xmas treat last year.

    That big kook is purty.

Just wait until you buy the kilo version, it'll make your 10 ozer puny. Don't have a scan available, but I purchased one from APMEX late last year for $640. ( Just had to have one, regardless of the price image )

Yeah I'd like a kilo one. Maybe if I get a couple good sales at the art shows/fests this spring I'll pick one up.
