Seriously - There's nothing special about coin dealers except they fly a lot and are accustomed to the questions from security staff. You can take your coins in your carry on baggage.
PS: Good Idea! Wear a big hat that says "Coin Dealer Carrying Lots of Cash." I'm sure you'll get lots of help.
Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I am just wondering about US flights to Hawaii and if anyone got stopped and harassed for carrying money or coins while going there.

I have taken small amounts (a box or two) of rolls/slabs with no issues.
Internationally, I would strongly recommend you talk to the customs in the country(ies) you plan to travel in/out of.
I have gone to China/South Korea/Taiwan/Japan with a few slabs and no issues, but I haven't tried taking a larger amount. Also, it is "$10,000" cash before you need to worry about value of cash into/out of US (some countries may be slightly different). I usually travel with $300-$1000 internationally so that I can have emergency/quick funds as soon as I hit the airport.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Of course, you can.
For international flights carrying coins onto airplanes isn't a problem in itself though some countries severely restrict the size of carry-on items. Dealing with customs procedures is a totally different issue.

I wondered how it might be viewed if i took a few filled danscos back to the UK , and a smallish bag of bullion.Total value wouldnt be 10k but probably not an awful longs way off it.I think you are right , id be best to ask prior.

and was guessing they would search - but didn't
It takes a few seconds and they are happy.
I do think there is a law about large amounts of cash on aircraft even going from state to state but don't know how it reads.

<< <i>What if its an international flight ? Can customs put the skids on that? >>
Good question. One has to declare "currency" taken into and out of a country. Would you simply declare a $1 value for an 1804 Dollar, or is it an antiquity... which is also declared...

For what I understood you just need to declare whatever is over $10K.

Id rather carry it than ship for obvious reasons , ill collect with confidence and try to keep things down to half a dozen danscos and a small bag of collectable bullion issues.
If i have to pay duty or import tax or whatever , that might hurt.If its a personal collection though it should be ok ? I only worry about customs taking exception to gold bullion and pre 1933 gold coins mostly.

As for the limitation, the official custom decleration form says you have to declare all amounts above $10,000 in cash, or the equivalent thereof. This is the case in virtually every country. Declaring it won't get you into trouble, not declaring it definitely will, if they search your bags.

A few years ago while visiting my inlaws in NYC, a friend of mine who owed me some money paid me with a 100 oz J & M silver bar (silver was $11.20 per oz).
When we went through security at JFK, I put the bar in a seperate tote at x-ray to make evdident I wasn't trying to hide it (for whatever the reason) and the TSA still pulled me aside. TSA brought over a supervisor who told me I wasn't allowed to bring the silver bar on the plane. She kept saying over and over again that it could be used as a weapon.
I pointed out that my laptop (much larger and heavier back then) could also be used in a similar fashion but she maiintained that the bar was not eligible for carry-on as it could be used as a weapon. She actually wanted me to go back to the luggage counter and check in the 100 oz silver bar in what I intended to use as my carry-on bag. After a bit of tactful negotiation, I at least got het to allow me to check it in at the gate. I was escorted with a full security detail (three big guys) through JFK to my gate, and after receiving multiple assurances that it wouldn't go through to baggage claim in Phoenix, i exchanged it for a claim check. When we landed I did retrive it at the gate. All was well.
Although I'm definetly in favor of thorough security measures (including Israeli-style screening methods) at our airports, I thought this incident was a bit over the top.

I dunno, I think asking people right out if they're carrying bombs is pretty over the top, too (as happened to me at Ben Gurion airport).
