<< <i>That bar was HUGE!!!! >>
Yeah, when I saw that, I just threw my 100g bar into the garbage!
I wonder is the person eating the gold topped sushi will be scraping around in the crapper later on trying to get some of his dinning dollars back. That is too ridiculous.

I'm a collector of the elements, and obviously gold is one of those elements. A good friend of mine has set up a business selling samples of the elements to collectors around the world, and on his website he has a gallery of some special items he has made at the request of the buyer. He's got some really nice gold, platinum, and palladium rods there. (Element Sales Photo Gallery). Yes, the cost of the metals he sells are much higher than spot price, but that's because he has to purchase the raw elements at spot price, or slightly above, then spend some time in the manufacturing process, then sell it for a profit. It is a business and businesses don't survive unless they make a profit. Just wanted to get that out of the way.
<< <i>Nice images. I now have to clean the drool off of my keyboard.

OHHH!! While I'm sure it's expensive, I'd love to have some iridium as it's pretty rare! Definitely something most people will never see in their lifetime.

<< <i>I think those figurines like the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as well as some of those animal gold figurines were very cool >>
I don't know about the Japanese Snow White and the 7 dwarves but the Hong Kong figurines (mostly based on Lunar Year animals) are hollow and made of thin 24K gold skin. They are very popular among the Chinese. Pricing is based on weight X spot gold + a little premium.

Iridium isn't that bad, pricewise. Cheaper than gold or platinum, I believe. (Though it has been a while since I bought my nugget. The higher price is usually due to the difficulty in working with the very dense, very hard metal). The troy ounce osmium pellet I bought from Dave (The guy who runs the website I linked to) is pretty damned cool. It's a nice, blue color and is incredibly dense. It's a troy ounce, but about the size of a quarter!
It's pretty cool seeing a lot of these metals in person instead of just reading about them in textbooks. Hell, it was my coin collection and all the pure metals coins are made out of that really got me into collecting elements. I now have a basically complete collection of all elements one can acquire. Pretty cool stuff.
