should pcgs make a holder for rattlers to fit into so that they shouldnt have to be cracked to be re

For some reason I recall reading (though I could easily be wrong) that I think it was the 2nd generation pcgs holder was a holder within another holder.

under such a presumption or just to creat a new idea-

what would you think of a new pcgs holder where a rattler can be placed inside and sealed and designated with the inflationary grade?

may the fonz be with you...always...

Seems to me you shouldn't hold your breath waiting for this one.

The trouble with the rattle holders was that they rattled. I cracked out a couple of my coins from PCGS holders years ago simply because I could not stand to listen to my coins rattling in them. I was afraid that they would get a rub on the contact points.

Aside from numismatic history for holder collectors I don’t see a need to preserve these holders. I’ve had some piece re-holdered by PCGS at the FUN from the rattle holder to the modern one simply because I think the large holder is much more attractive

Joe, are you suggesting that the coins be re-graded without being cracked out and examined outside of the plastic? If so, I don't see that happening.

I am not a fan of the rattlers. I have either sold/traded or cracked out everyone I have owned.

There should be a small holder that permanently seals the coin forever. And that every grading company needs to develope a holder that holds this seal unit. And when the tabs are broken..........along these lines for a holder within a holder.

  • I really don't care for the idea of slabbing a slab. I do think that PCGS and NGC should invest some serious effort (and the requisite ca$h) into making coins completely inert within their slabs. Considering the recent guarantee revocation, maybe they (PCGS) are already looking in to this.

I'd like PCGS to make a huge plastic slab that an entire collection of coins can fit into.

I'm sure that for some of the larger collections that slab is going to be about the size of the Great Wall in China, but still, being able to view your entire collection in one slab would be cool.

Of course when you sell the shipping costs will kill the deal in most cases!

I think this would fall under the reholder policy.

This is where a pcgs graded coin will be reholder at the same grade in a new style holder.

It is feasible that they could simply affix a tamper proof label to the existing plastic, as in the way that NGC adds such to the GSA holders, but that doesn't allow for PCGS to maintain the standard for proper grading of the coin(sans holder). Of course such a service should/could/would be offered devoid of any grade guarantee.image

If you want to show that the coin is undergraded, why not submit to CAC and go for the "gold" sticker?

You're more likely to see David Hall, Mark Salzberg and John Albanese doing a three-way makeout session under mistletoe than that ever happening.

I kinda wonder if it is really necessary to crack out most coins. If CAC can grade em thru the plarstic then so can PCGS. Or would CAC have a different opinion of the coin if they could see it raw? Afterall, we are expected to buy them based on what we see in the plastic.
