Quadruple clip, some may call it a bowtie clip.

    Impressive ragged clip.

Curved clip with a uniface strike.

Exterior corner clip, with a partial collar.

So if 100% of the coin was there then the grade would be higher than MS70!!!

...and one more clipped type you don't see every day:

Very cool clips folks! They're really great to see. Here's a clipped 1857 Flying Eagle. The clip is pretty minor but I don't see many clipped Flying Eagles, especially in higher grades. I thought this one would grade MS64 but it graded MS63 by NGC. It's a really pretty coin on top of the clip!

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

Besides, I prefer to think that the "huge grade limiting ding" woulda been in the clipped out portion. image

I do not have any clipped planchets.... With the amount of change I go through, and the jars and jars of coins I have, I am surprised that I have not found even a small one. Oh well, nice pictures... Cheers, RickO

Hi Sean, I'm missing something. Where's the third clip? Is it under the last letters of CENTS?

My guess as well, under NTS. More obvious looking at obverse to right of top clip.
