  • Right now, it's Darkside only, as I am working on a mid-grade set of milled British Farthings by date (1672-1956) along with a few major varieties thrown in. It will work out to about 200 coins, or so. Currently about 60% complete.
To add to the level of difficulty, I am trying to keep the average down around $20 per coin. That may prove difficult (impossible?) when I get to the "Tin" issues!

It's all about the thrill of the hunt! And, along the way, I've learned a heck of a lot about the different monarchs and British history in general.

I'm working on a U.S. type set from half cent to $20 gold piece. I'm within three coins of finishing, but the last three coins are bears.

Beyond that I'm collecting any 19th century presidential campaign tokens, medelets and medals that I don't have that draw my interest. I'm always looking for more Lincoln pieces.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Still working on US Cents (date/MM). I'm a bit further away as I just purged some Indian Heads from the collection and was too slow in picking up a couple of nice mid-date LC's at the Baltimore show...

I'm around 80% of the way through a Dansco 7070...sans gold page...

...Still have Morgan Dollars on hold...

I am kind of doing what Ajia is doing. Working on a complete coin set, Cent through Dollar. Currently focusing on the halves. Like Ajia, I too will never be able to complete the project, and am also beginning to get fed up trying to keep up with all the new stuff that the mint is issuing each year. It is very frustrating when it comes to storage space. I may give this project up sooner than later, and refocus on something that is easier to manage. I find myself drawn more and more to earlier dates, and getting sickened by having to buy another presidential dollar, side A and B, in both satin and business strike, plus all the errors that they are trying to pawn of as major varieties, etc. etc.

Oh how I long for a 19th Century & 20th Century Mint sets.
    I'm in complete agreement with Sonoran Monsoon;

43 Different Presidential Dollars for the 2009 Complete Variety set.....15 Different Sacs.....hey, ONLY 4 Kennedy halves!.....24 Quarters (No varietires found yet?!).....4 Dimes....4 Nickels.....& 16 Lincolns (but there should be more as no varieties listing in the COMPLETE variety set, circ strike 1959-Present)

That means for the complete variety collector of all series, you would need at least 110 coins for 2009 alone! image

PS- Sonoran Monsoon, that's one great Complete Dollar set you have. image

So the mint gives the phrase "going postal" a whole new meaning!

I have NO intention of trying to "keep up" with modern output. A few coins here and there, quarters and dollars at face from bank rolls, and thats it for me.

I don't envy those who feel they need to "get one of everything"

How do you avoid feeling like you're being sold a bill of goods and being taken for a ride?

You nailed it when you said we need 110 coins for 2009 alone. That is 5.5 blue boxes every year! I am definately going to have to abandon the idea of a near complete cent through dollar collection. I am leaning towards sticking to my dollar collection and perhaps work on a type set or expand the dollars into proofs. A 19th and 20th century mint set would be neat. At least there would be a stopping date. I guess it can be done through yearly mint sets, but it would be nice to have them all listed in one place.
  • Dansco type set number 3 (AU - 5 coins needed) and Dansco Morgan date set (AU - 7 coins needed).

Other than in type sets I was never fond of the Morgan coins and owned none. As I have aged collecting Morgan dollars has become more attractive as I can see them,

After the Morgan set is complete I plan a Peace Dollar date set.
