Don Willis just sat down for lunch at the Baltimore coin show today....that's when I approached.

GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 17,647 ✭✭✭✭✭
It was 1:40pm EST and the show didn't start until 2:00pm without dealer or early bird badges.
Don Willis had just seated himself at the table with his lunch.
I decided to interupt Mr's Willis's relaxing lunch and asked, "Is anyone sitting in that seat next to you?"
He cordially invited me to sit down, and we proceeded to have a very nice conversation until 2:00pm.
Either he is an extremely nice and open man, or I am a bit pushy. I believe it is the former.
I, of course had all kinds of questions and comments...and he was most accommodating.
He asked me if I had joined CoinFacts yet. I replied no, but I just might.
Don says that CoinFacts is really starting to take off, and they already have well over a thousand subscribers.
He says they have over a bazillion images(that's alot) and are accumulating more and more.
Don said that the TrueView service allows PCGS to add even more images to their CoinFacts service.
Most all customers are excited to see their coins highlighted on the WebSite, he said.
He says he has BIG plans for the PCGS Website coming very soon.
Don also wants to expand and enhance the online submission service.
I mentioned I had 6 coins for the onsite TrueView and mentioned that one of the coins was FirstStrike™.
He said he didn't think they had FirstStrike labels at the show, so he immediately called one of his staff via cell.
He was pleasantly surprised, as was I that they did in fact have the FS label!!
We talked about a lot of other things, but I guess it's best to keep some things sacred for the PCGS boss.
I hope he doesn't mind me blabbing to the forum folks.
All and all, I had a surprising 20 minutes before entering the show.
And yes, I will be joining CoinFacts!! image

I had lunch with my beloved QDB at the March Baltimore show. These types of gatherings are very informative and the highlight of any numismatist's day.

Goldbully: You did, indeed, get to meet the real Don Willis. For as long as I've known him (well before he became President of PCGS), he has always been an extremely nice person.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • What did you have for lunch?

  • I just looked at the CoinFacts web page and it sounds like a great idea. I really am considering signing up for that. Seen the pop ups for it on the PCGS sight but till now have always just ignored them.. Thanks for the heads up...

  • I still dont see what is so great about coin facts. It gives you pop reports- you can get that as a pcgs member, It gives you pcgs price- you can get that for free, it gives you recent auction results- you can get that at heratige for free- it gives you a tiny general article about a series- you can get that anywhere, it gives you some images- one again you can get that any where, I understand that its nice to have something all in one place and if any of the information they are giving is hard to get I would understand but the information is not that hard to get.

Don is just a nice guy. Normally people don't like being interrupted when they're out to lunch.

During the ANA show this last summer I was having lunch with a PCGS customer service rep (off the bourse floor) and somebody had the audacity to interrupt our conversation in mid sentence to ask a customer service question. Needless to say, that person recieved a negative reaction when he persisted to address his questions.

But there's a reason why folks shut off the TV or radio, why the phone is ignored, why there's little or no talk after giving bless......those people want to taste, think about and enjoy what they're eating. When someone doesn't take the time to do this or isn't allowed to do so, lunch, will feel like it never happened at all. Lunch, break times gives us time to get away from the daily dredge to gather our thoughts....even if it's only a sandwich.

I don't mind people talking to me while I'm eating, but
what I don't like is for someone to come up to my table
and stand over my food and want to talk to me.

When you talk, there is a fine spray of spittle that
comes out of your mouth, and I'd just as soon not
season my food with it, so if you come up to Mister
Bungle's table, pull up a chair. I don't mind talking
    while I eat.

This forum is free, brought to you by PCGS. There's lots of great information here, and terrific problem solvers.

CoinFacts is a nice product with lots of information I can probably get elsewhere, free. But I also like supporting PCGS with my membership and a subscription to CoinFacts. I'm surprised how much I use it. And it's getting better all the time.
