c'mon guys, get busy "guessing" the grades on these coins. this is easy, any moron can guess the grade of a coin from an online, high-qulaity digital photograph, right?? these pictures fit the bill and represent the coins quite well so the task should be an easy one. step up to the plate and prove me wrong.....................you feel lucky today, don't-cha, PUNK!!!image

BTW, just to be sure, all the coins are encapsulated in major TPG holders and i'll post the encapsulated pictures for validation after more failed attempts at proving how well you can grade from, ah, skip it. i'm starting to sound like an old record that's got the needle stuck in a groove. hell, this is the age of the CD...........................image

Your quote brings to mind a .45.

Yet none of the pieces would grade XF45 IMO.

  • Al they are much better than punk; of that I am sure. Punk is survey speak for 11, and they are way better than fine.image

speaking of guns, i was reminded that since we all East Coast and most of the forum is still sipping coffee and not able to reply as of yet. i'll be strolling in the woods for a bit with a weapon of my choice. keep guessing and i'll catch up with the thread in a few hours. perhaps there will be a correct guess or two by then.image

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭
no venison, Rick, just a scouting reconnaissance mission. sign of the target was found and a sight for ambush finalized......................but this is a coin forum, so how's about yooz guys get to the guessing game, the educated guessing game that is. you're all educated in the nuances of coin grading by picture, so let's get going.

I know what you're thinking. Is it a 5 or is it a 6. To tell you the truth, I can't remember myself. But beings as this is a PCGS slab and can blow the price point clean off, you have to ask yourself, do you feel lucky? Well do ya? Punk. click.

calling those pics "high quality" is laughable. of course one cannot
guess a grade even close when looking at pics like that.

    so why even bother.

went through them for the first time just now and eventhough the grades were posted I was close except for two coins,

    the 1883-s I thought was ms63

and the SLQ I thought was au58.

Did Mark Goodman really take the pics? If so, then please post a link to the picture banquet on youtube!
  • I see the Pilgrim had a lot of votes for 65, 66 even 67. I myself thought no better than 62. Just wondering why people would think that coin would go so high.
  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭
to clarify-----i didn't say Mark Goodman took all the picture, only that he was due an apology for the undo criticism since he did take one of the pictures, namely, the Pilgrim. which brings me to a comment about that coin.

i always felt that the coin was better than MS62 and assumed that PCGS was harsh due to the overall appearance of the tone. i felt that coin had spent time in an envelope and then in a folder or other type holder which resulted in the color's splotchiness. it is actually rather pleasing and the luster is very, very good. with many forum members seeing AU58/MS62 grades as cousins, i always wondered why this particular coin was in the MS62 holder when it clearly seemed to have the quality of a 63/64.
