Who cares. Sellers can price their stuff as high as they want. If everyone wants to give BBCE all their money because BBCE never makes a mistake they're crazy. I would not put large amounts of money into unopened product. For people who generally want to spend large amounts of money for almost no possibility of a return then BBCE is your place to go for unopened packs. Their rep is very good. It seems like all vintage packs yield off centered cards. It's a losing situation to begin with. JMHO.
<< <i>wow this got interesting... Personally I don't trust ebay - after talking with Steve he said there is no way to tell from pictures if something has been resealed in most cases - so all the "good" pictures in the world don't mean a thing. I'd be willing to bet 3 very oc Jordans will be pulled from this box. >>
At a price of just $40 per Jordan, and the stars selling for under 5 bucks apiece, is it really worth the hassle to search this box? And before you spew off about how the Jordan used to be a $150 card, remember that centering wasnt even close to as important as it has become in the past 5-7 years! Back in 1991, nobody cared about 55/45 centering vs 70/30 centering. >>
Umm, yeah. You must not remember Gary from these forums who searched 1984 Fleer packs for a Mattingly rookie when they were selling for $10.
I'm not a basketball collector but if these Fleer BKB packs are like the baseball packs, they run in a set sequence. So if a seller knows the sequence, they can search the box to pull out any Jordan's and leave the remainder 100% factory sealed. Adding in a few other searched packs leaves a 100% factory sealed box with zero Jordans. Either way, as a vintage pack collector, I 100% concur with others that say you cannot 100% verify a pack is untampered with simply from a picture. You can detect the obvious poor reseal jobs but not a good resealing.
As most folks on this board know I spend quite a bit on unopened material. Mickey71 is actually correct, unopened is a losing proposition in the long run. However there is a thrill factor that for me more than offsets the amount of $$s I lose by opening packs/boxes and every now and then you do get lucky. Like everyone, Steve makes mistakes however when he does he always makes good. The same can not be said for your average eBay seller.
Sadly most product on Ebay is not legit. If you find a legit seller you can get very, very good deals. However by this point there is so much resealed garbage on ebay that it is not worth buying pre 1990 ungraded packs & boxes from ebay if you plan to open. I have lost thousands of $$s on resealed packs and boxes over the last 10 years. Not every seller is willing to work with you, many of them are simply flipping product they bought themselves on ebay. Also scammers will reseal ANYTHING. Folks resealed 89 Donruss boxes after pulling the Griffey rookie, having been the unfortunate purchaser of a resealed box of 89 Donruss.
Now some of Steve's prices are high and I choose not to purchase and open those products. I don't have any issue with him pricing 87/88 Fleer basketball at $1150 I just know I will never buy a box from him for that much. As for 80/81 basketball, Steve's price (minus discount) is fair. I've bought over 10 boxes from him over the last 5 years and I try and pick one up every time I see them on his website. Since there is only one chase card in that set why would I risk buying a resealed, searched or sequenced box?
BCE has an advertised "buy price" of $750 on this particular product. So this box actually sold for 10% LESS than wholesale. If you believe BBCE's buy price to be wholesale. What would be fun to know is exactly how many of these BBCE has sold in the last 6 months at their asking price. My wager is less than 4.
I see where you were WRONG as usual yourself. Seems Steve sold more then 4.
Lets not let any facts get in the way here Gecko, are you saying that if Steve Hart was selling these boxes at the price you are whining about you would still buy them from ebay?
