Visited the B&M today

He had a stack of gold-plated 1-oz bars, maybe a dozen of them (Heroes of America from Franklin mint or someone). Several 1-oz gold Eagles, and 1 20th oz Panda.

He said nobody was selling, and people are buying anything they can get their hands on (likely buyer for the eagles that afternoon).

I'd have bought the silver bars if they hadn't been plated, the panda if it'd been slabbed. I went away empty-handed.

    I have a few of those gold-plated presidential ounce bars. I see nothing intrinsically wrong with them since they're still silver.

    Liked their heft, and I think the silver content was worded pretty cool (don't remember for sure, something like "one ounce troy pure silver"). But I have an aversion to gold plated anything. Just funky. He actually gets lots of Franklin mint stuff, and some of it is exceptionally well executed. Puts some (most) of our regular issue commems to shame.

    I would have passed on them. I don't like gold plated items as well.

    Maybe if you bought thousands of them you could get the Gold plating off and make some Gold ingots for free. image

    And I had a guy here PM me on a 100oz Engelhard bar.

    When I gave him a price he said he was looking to pay no more than spot.

    Maybe Id get more if I had it gold plated
