We should ALL buy these to help support those who helped make the U.S the Free country that it is. Money from the sales go towards the Disabled Veterans’ LIFE Memorial Foundation.
I totally agree.... this should be a record seller at the mint. We collect this for what it means, how the funds will be used and for the gratitude we feel towards those it commemorates. Cheers, RickO
As a vet and retiree I'll pick up one of each, but I'm not thrilled with the design. What's the deal with the Mint's foot fetish? I looks like a rehash of the 2007 Little Rock Central High commem. I wouldn't hold it against someone if they passed on this one.

Feet are something that we all have in common and a military uniform is neutral. The Mint doesn't have to worry about being PC about the racial, sexual and military branch makeup pf the design. That's my guess.
Great cause, horrible design. I still can't understand why, if it is supposed to be honoring disabled veterans, it shows three soldiers with only one of them disabled. TD

I'm a disabled Vet and won't buy it. Not one cent of the money is going to a Vet. It's for the memorial and not for the men and women.

So Bob, you don't think disabled veterans are all sitting around thinking, "You know, a big memorial in DC would make my life complete."

Agreed about the design.
But I think they are all disabled. One has lost a leg. Another is using a cane. And the third has another disability not affecting his/her legs. (I did not look at the official documentation. This is simply a guess from seeing the design.)

<< <i>On backorder all ready (March 12), Does the Mint decide to make these things the day they offer them for sale? >>
I don't know what they do but I don't think they ever ship out a new issue immediately. >>
Yeah, they rarely ship right away, I concur, but then they usually just say "in stock and reserved". You'd think they could make 10,000 each of proofs and UNC's and have them ready for the launch date. I'd say they do it so more people can get their stuff graded within the ship date time frame, but I'm sure that is wishful thinking (the Mint doesn't give a darn about that). They have had the (poor) design finalized months ago. Maybe they have everyone looking for prez/NA dollar errors. Don't mind me, I just feel like bi*chin.
<< <i>Seeing as my Great-Grandfather is a disabled WWII Vet currently in the VA Hospital, I will be buying at least one of these. >>
Seeing the face of one of the members of our greatest generation, reminds me no generation, past or present, can hold a candle to the countless acts of daily heroism they displayed.
Ordered me an uncirculated and a proof version this morning....my grandfather was lucky to make it through WWII and I'm happy to support all the troops.
I'm with Bob on this one. It's not only an uninspired design, - but the proceeds are going to a Memorial instead of to something that directly benefits the disabled vets. If either one or the other was a different story, I would have bought a couple.

the design is the design.
This is another that looks a bit better in hand than in the pictures.
The reverse is reminiscent of something off a granite memorial rather than a commemorative coin.
