problem with that is the character limit on the sig lines... I'd rather have a link to my sets as I can't fit all of the BST folks in my sig line anyways given the current limit.
Funny you should post this thread... I've been talking to someone (not on the board) about a coin trade who is acting very paranoid and asking me to do weird things like make a deposit in his Paypal and shipping at the same time.
If the person makes no effort to return your coins or pay you, will you please do us all a favor and out them? Having a scammer on this board is like a murder in paradise, it's unheard of, but it can happen.

There really isn't a formal process, but naming names helps... And it's entertaining as hell, to boot.
I have slowly expanded my trusted trading partners by inquiring of other forum members (who I respect) of their status and or history.

To the OP, you always have the option of posting an image of the miscreants rubber cheque if they do not make good on it, much like stores and even coin dealers have done in their display cases at shows.

Have we heard names yet? I think a bad check warrants a name, esp if they didn't finish the deal. I mean, things happen with checks (tho not me personally)... but if they offered an "over marketvalue" price, bounced a check, and refused to finish the deal, they were attempting to STEAL from you.
<< <i>Perhaps you could just list the other deals as "pending deals" in your sigline. After enough time 'pending', perhaps folks will get the message?
Sorry for the levity in an otherwise serious thread; I find that my avatar is taking over my actions.
I thought we had a way to rate other forum members, but I cannot find the feature now. Ah, well, it is irrelevant. Nobody knows if 1 is good or 10 is good, so the whole system is absurd. >>
That would be the user rating which can be found by clicking on the pair of glasses next to the PM padlock. I have never used it to rate anyone. I think its like maybe a bullchit meter?
there is a dearth of facts on this one-sided post. talk of a bst ranking etc could be put to a poll. i for one would vote against encumbering the site with the extensive rules procedures and disputes that would inevitably follow.
The BST issues seem to be the exceptions. To build the Taj Mahal to address exceptions seems folly.
I have probably had transactions with over 100 different forum members, buying and selling, and never a problem.
Then again, just yesterday there was a thread about an eBay transaction with a forum member that went awry. Interestingly, despite that the forum member had multiple previous and distinct complaints in which he clearly was at fault publicly discussed here, there was a wave of supporters who were steadfast in their support. Some people are either more forgiving or have a short memory.
The bounced check seems pretty clear cut. "things' do come up, and "excuses" could be valid, so I would hope the buyer contacted tander as soon as he knew it was going to bounce. (I've done it - not on coin purchases - and my bank always honors the check, just dings me for the insufficient funds! I presume they would not honor the check if I was already in the negative when the check arrived, just a guess.) AND, as soon as possible, made (make) things right including paying any fee's tander incurred. I would think 2-3 weeks TOPS. BUT I would also say that tander has the task of reminding the buyer at least once a week during that time.
As for, "another had some probably legitimate things happen and promised to follow through in the near future (& did not).", I would have given a time when the agreement would expire. This, I think happens regularly. Always take 'back-up offers' JIC.

PS-Maybe instead of positive transactions in the sigline, name members who you haven't had good trans actions with....though that would really become retaliatory.
I don't think I've ever had a bad BST experience and would hope that others would say the same thing about their experiences with me. Last week I listed and sold 5 coins on the BST one at a time. I've heard back from 4 of the 5 letting me know they received their coin. The 5th hasn't signed on in awhile but hopefully he received it just fine.
One buyer even sent me the coin below in lieu of $.25 of what he owed... I was thrilled.
I've found that through the BST you have a chance to interact with others you might not get to otherwise and to develop new friends (well on-line friends) that you can talk coins with. Since I don't get to shows and my "real-life" friends don't care about coins, I value the relationships developed here over time.
<< <i>If you are afraid to name names, there is no real point in wasting our time with your complaints. >>
When I posted this message, it wasn't about outing people. I specifically asked if there was a way to rate people on the BST board. That was it.
Now, for my part, I did change my sig line (has others have mentioned) to include those individuals with whom I have had positive experiences (which until this point has been 100% of the time). Prior to posting my message, I had PM both individuals on numerous occasions. Since my message was posted, both have contacted me and are in the process of working things out.
It is not about being afraid to name names. To me it is about exhausting all options before getting to that point. Anyway, thanks to all who provided the good advice.
Excellent BST board members who complete their deals: WONDERCOIN, DABIGKAHUNA, GEMSTATECOINS, FIVECENTS, SILVEREAGLES92, NEWMISMATIST, GTOster, SCHMITZ7,
The BST is only a vehicle provided by CU so that people can "Buy, Sell, & Trade" coins between themselves. Thankyou, CU, for this service. It is our job to "police" the transactions, through threads similiar to this one. tander123 has presented an issue that needs addressing. I realize that late at night some of us get silly(referencing post counts, etc.), but if we don't take the problem seriously, the BST will fail. I note that many collections have been enhanced by transactions within BST, and I'm sure that most people on both sides of these transactions have been satisfied. Those that have failed, we must know about so that the service won't fail. I suggest these measures: 1. tander123 establish a deadline through PMs with the two forum members. 2. if his satisfaction is not met, then the whole mess be 'outed' to the forum in general.
If one has both savings and checking accounts with the same bank why not simply have/sign an agreement with the bank to automatically transfer funds from savings [assuming the account is solvent] to checking if a shortfall arises? My bank offers this service and it's better to pay $3 rather than $25 or whatever a NSF fee is. FWIW there is a limit by state law about how much can be charged for a NSF fee in case of a bad check. I remember a local merchant posting about a $100 fee for returned checks. Because she was a money mongering beyatch it was 3 or 4 years before she ever got another one of my checks. I spose that a few suckers actually paid that much [I think the max they could actually charge was $25] , living proof that he who doesn't know his rights, doesn't have any rights.
You left me off your list, I am chagrined....lol. Just a reminder that many of us have been here so long and had so many effortless transactions we cannot remember them all.
