Will you be paying $9 a month for the new coinfacts?

Seems like a great way to bring in some cash, but for the cost of another collectors club membership, Im not paying.
I used coinfacts alot, but I wont be paying for info I can find in my books hat Ive bought for this hobby.
Is the new coinfacts going to be used less than the old one due to pay to play?
Also, Im not trying to knock this program, just trying to figure out why make it a paid for service... Isnt it good business to offer some stuff to your collectors for free to get them here and keep them...
What are some of you guys thinking about this service, will you pay and use it or will you not?

I already have access to population reports.
I already have access to the PCGS Price Guide.
I already can look up auction histories all I want for the venues I use.
I have copies of all the TrueViewed coins I admire already and don't really need any more pretty pictures.

Too bad.

1. Historical PCGS "values" for a given coin and condition. They do not offer this as far as I can tell.
2. Historical PCGS "populations" for a given coin and coindition. They do not offer this as far as I can tell.
3. Accurate auction records for a cross-section of the largest auction firms. I quickly looked at their auction records for 1793 half cents. Their records were very incomplete, listing one coin selling for more than $100K when a quick glance at Heritage and Stacks showed at least five.
The site has potential and I'm hopeful it will eventually improve.

wait a couple of months
and let them work out
any bugs or errors that pop up.

No, it was free to everyone. Now, they add the pops, and some auction records and charge you $9 a month, or $95 a year.
I wonder if this place will soon be a pay for tool for the collectors.
Slabbing doesnt pay the bills, crossovers dont, truviews dont, memberships dont pay, but this $9 month service will bring in more collectors...
Do you think they will start charging a yearly fee to just own PCGS graded coins?
This is not right! I payed for this service and still have seven months till my membership runs out.

Funny, I still have access to my online pop reports yet I didn't join.
What errors/prompts are you receiving?

it's the way they conduct business.
I sir Im anything but cheap. In life, Im more generous and giving than most I know. I dont mind paying for something that is worth it, but Im not paying for something I can get elsewhere for free. I dont consider that cheap, I consider that a smart shopper.
Charging for pop reports through your membership, then having to pay for them again through the new coinfacts doesnt seem like a good way to treat your paying members.
<< <i>So the pop reports are now only part of the new and improved coinfacts site that one needs to pay for? >>
That's what it looks to me.I tryed the site a few time and it won't come up.

Are you talking about the one linked in Stones master thread list? If so, it was free for me to use, and I used it almost everyday...
<< <i>Yes. Lots of info & images for $9/mo. >>
I think for a business like yours, this would be perfect. For the "hoi polloi", this would be very expensive.
<< <i>I have a platinum membership and can still see the pop reports and I didn't join coinfacts either. >>
Maybe it's my computer. The site will not come up for me.Oh well.

At the start of the locked announcement thread Don says that Pop reports will overlap... available on the site and thru Membership ...
As for me and the new site... never used the old one so I do not think I have much motivation to pay for the new one...
When it comes to knowledge...I enjoy the search more than simply having it handed to me...I prefer to learn over being told what someone else decides I should know... but hey... that's just me...
The so-called "sample pages" were chock full of advertisements. I wonder if the ads are there for real subscribers?
Seems to me if they're going to advertise on every page, then they should offer the content for free and let the advertisers pay for the cost of providing it. I know I wouldn't want to pony up $10 a month and have to get bombarded with internet ads.

First off, who called you cheap? I was simply making an observation on human behavior. If the shoe fits, wear it, if not, don't.
Second, you don't have to "pay for [pop reports] again". They are still available through both PCGS and the new Coinfacts, so your criticism in this case is unfounded, IMO.
Third, if you think that you can find the same information available in Coinfacts as you can at any other single sight, then I challenge you to show a source that has the following: Pictures and a write-up of every US issue along with population reports, historical auction records, and color photos.
Listen, you may not want to pay $9/month for the service, but there's no reason to stretch the truth to justify your decision....Mike

So what are the benefits of becoming a platinum member now? I have been a platinum member for the last 3 years. This has got me reconsidering. Maybe cheaper to just do the silver membership and Coinfacts then the platinum. I wonder if they plan on including the coinfacts in the platinum membership.
Get my "facts" elsewhere... and yes, I might thoroughly enjoy the "new" coinfacts, and it's prolly got lots of nice updated features... but for the limited buys I make, my small potatoes hobby will just have to forego this resource.
There are many others I use, and not nearly as many as others in this forum... PCGS should consider that most resources on the web, for nearly anything anyone would think to search for - and RE-search - don't charge viewers to do so.
