Middleman Woes

I found a nice '37 proof set with this incredible buffalo nickel at a recent show. If I had the money I would have snagged it in a heartbeat, but I didn't so I passed this beauty on to someone else. I just got the set in the mail, and I've got to ship it out tomorrow. Man...this is one coin I hate to let leave my fingertips! At least I got some good photos, and I'll always have the memories of the 2 days we spent together.

At least you were able to find it a new home and now you have pictures to remember it.

<< <i>Nice strike... good coin except for the discoloration...
The coloration is what makes the coin if you ask me. If the nickel had been blast white, I would have glanced right over the set.

I've had some weekends like that too.

What did the rest of the set look like? How was it stored?
Just curious...Mike

Why can't I do both? Lol.

You can see the whole set here. It was in a plastic holder with the plastic screws on the corners.
<< <i>I had a 1937 Proof Buff with similar toning on the obverse. I could never get a good shot of it. I sold it to a local dealer, it was NGC certified PR67.

I know the exact coin you are talking about, and it looks almost identical to this one. I saw a picture of the one you sold the day before I was going to the show to get the set, and I almost panicked because I thought someone else had beat me to it.

Thanks for the link. That set is a bit of a head-scratcher. I would have expected the silver to tone more than the nickel, being the more reactive metal. Hmmm....

<< <i>That is by far one of the most beautiful buffalo nickels I have seen. Is their any chance that the toning is at? I am not putting down this coin, just curious. >>
It is definitely natural toning. It is unusual that only the nickel and penny had toned in the set. I don't know the set's history, but I'm certain that the toning is original.
I was just looking at the set on your site and the price is $0!!!! so I clicked the order and price is still $0. paypal payment of $0 was sent!!! when will my coins be shipped???

I'm not seeing that the $0 was received. You may want to check with paypal to make sure there was enough in your account to cover it.
