Civil War 2 cents

This is why I like AU or thereabouts....hey you never know, during the Civil War, this may have been found in some unfortunate soul's pocket lying in a field. (OK, let the joking begin)......but that's why I like my coins circulated if possible. Also, kids like to hear about stuff like that, too.

No, the sharpness grade is Fine, but the piece was cleaned at some point.

To be AU, the "WE" in "IN GOD WE TRUST" should be very sharp.

Is it the color that shows it to have been cleaned?

Yes, the orange look, if the white balance is good in the photo, is faded from an old cleaning. The blueish color is not natural in circulated copper too.

I will give you my 2 cents for yours....image
  • I meant to say circulated, but not so much that a person can't see most of the elements.

Note the crack at 2 o'clock?

It's pretty much a pocket piece when I talk at schools or whatever. You know, on 'job' day at the elementary schools. I like to turn kids on to coins. Beats
    video games IMO.

Thanks for grading and mentioning the orange cleaning properties to me. I have a lot of old raw copper, this looks pretty much like the rest, but not exactly.
I just assumed all copper I have were natural colors caused by the environment. Thanks.......

Here is the same coin photographed by myself which shows much more accurate color. Quite a bit different than the Ebay sellers picture.

Which set of pictures would (if any) make it a more valuable coin??

Removed the pics and put them on the next posting.........
  • Just noticed the reduction feature of Photobucket. This is a test to see how well it works. So, which coin would be preferable. I paid $20 for it based on the bright orange picture.
