That's terrible. I recall recently you posted an image of the 1902 IHC roll. Do you have a list of cert numbers?

Sorry to hear about your problems. A few years back a similar incident occured with a fellow collector. He too thought someone had taken a box of his coins only to find them behind a drawer in his dresser. It was odd, to say the least, that he really thought someone had stolen his coins. But if you have had some friends over, showing them your coins.........
Best of luck to you in getting your coins back.

wow, that's devastating news!!! I remember that 1902 roll you posted too and thought it was very cool. I'd be contacting every coin shop and pawn shop in the area to give them the heads up (with the consent of the authorities of course).

    hope you get them back.

Very sad news. I am sorry that you are going through this, but please understand that there's a very good chance that you will recover your coins and the thiefs will be aprehended. I have personally witnessed burglary victims get their coins returned. Plus you have images of your coins that you should distribute to EVERY coin and pawn show in the region. Also, you Rolex watches have serial numbers. Do you have them recorded?

Here's an image of your roll of 1902 cents in BU. Coincidentally, I saw them today in this thread about copper.

Good point Illini... contact all coin and pawn shops immediately. Also check your local classifieds daily (craigslist, etc.)

    Edited to also add:

I know it may not be nice to ponder but in most cases of home robberies (and even kidnappings) the perpetrator(s) are usually friends/family... just something to consider

Do NOT forget the antique stores that are local up to 40 miles away as well.

Hopefully, the police will be on top of things.

Here's hoping you will get everything back real soon.

Sorry to hear about your trouble.Hope it ll works out for you.A dozen years ago someone broke into my house and took some expensive guitars. However I had records of the serial numbers (just like your rolex s) and the robbers were found, arrested and my guitars returned eventually.so the serial numbers may make all the difference.Keep us posted
  • I also reside in Southern Wisconsin. Please PM me if you get a chance with a specific list of coins that I can keep an eye out for-- I'm constantly at the local coin shops as well as purchasing collections from private parties.

That's terrible, darktone. I really hope you recover your coins.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Sorry to hear of this unfortunate situation. I hope the family is fine and you get your property back.

I know this is a difficult time - when the dust settles I hope you will be kind enough to share some if the details if you can. Perhaps other board members can learn from what happened to you so they don't have the same experience.

Good point, the above is worth reading again. Good luck.

Hope they get caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. >>

I agree. It seems to me the person who robbed you had specifics on what they wanted (knowing what you had already). I've come to this conclusion based on the fact that they took almost all libs, and that 1902 BU Indian roll seems kind of like the 'outkast' of the things taken. I would think most robbers who go into a house not knowing what to find would just grab whatever and get out as soon as possible, ya know?

Either way, I hope things turn out in your favor. I will keep my eyes and ears open for you.

We must be related in not understanding... I pray for the lost. They don't know what they do when they trespass against us. Maybe a GPS unit hooked up to a TAZER directly plugged into his ass would help him stay on track.

  • Mike,

I am very sorry to hear about the theft of your possessions. It must be a VERY startling moment the second you realize someone has broken into your home. You have my best wishes for getting your collectibles back, and any other family items I would assume the slimeball(s) took.

Best wishes for you and your family,

    Tyler
