Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

remember that sp jeter i posted about the other day..........

I try to contact Upper Deck over 10 times by mail & called 3 times. I also emailed Ebay about 10 times in reporting the otem in several different ways.

I came to the conclusion that:

No one cares @ Upper Deck & no one cares at Ebay (i knew they would do nothing).

It bothers me that Upper Deck didnt do anything about this auction considereing that its a counterfit holgram.
I guess they dont care if anyone uses there name in ripping people off.

I'm done policeing.

I also know that the auction price is all shill bitting with probably one real fool being taken for his $.

As long as that 'fool' ain't you don't worry about it.

I've come to the conclusion that it's best to worry about myself, lest I get a stroke
    worrying about some fools.

    Good for you.
  • Can you please point out to me what makes this a fake? I have very little knowledge when it comes to more modern cards.

Thank you in advance for showing me.

  • The autograph is the worst fake I'ver ever seen. Jeter could never of signed that card even if he was armless.

    The scam is easy:

    1) get a Jeter buyback card prior to 2002 (UD data base goes to 02)
    2) get a matching sticker made ($1)
    3) get a high price rc
    4) get a 3rd grader to sign it
    5) private bids
    6) shll it
    7) get some fool to buy it

  • so you are saying the auto is fake and thats what makes you know it is not real?

I guess I was lookig for more of a way to point out a fake card..kinda like a fake 52 topps mantle..i.e the "s" in Dimaggio's on the back dont line up with mantles bats right the "h" on the wrong variation of the card amongst other things...

I agree with 5,6 and 7. The first 4 though I'm not too sure about.

    Good for you.
  • I dont see why you think its fake . they had buybacks that year . his auto has changed quite a bit over the years plus
the seller has 4500 transactions plus 100% feedback.

Besides , its not your money so why you so worried about it.

  • The auto is as fake as one can be.

If Jeter signed that card then Bonds never used juice.

Also if you dont think the seller knows the card is fake them I can't help you.

This argument sounds very familiar. Is this the norm for Pujols collectors to INSIST they are right and when people ask for details they REFUSE to provide them other than to say that they are an EXPERT and you have to take them at their word.

I appreciate the heads-up, but sounding the warning bells and waving your arms and shouting that the ship is going to sink without being willing to show us where the hole is in the hull doesn't really help us out...
  • Maybe that's why eBay and Upper Deck has never responded. Because they may have looked at it and said it was legit. Plus, like was said before, the seller has a great feedback rating.

That is not an authentic Jeter autograph from ANY time period.

Thats why these things sell, people who don't know anything.

"Why is this fake" "I dont believe you"

Take some time to look at ANY Jeter autographs from ANY time period and you will clearly see. Since this is a 2002 issued buy back, it is way off for the time period. Also, JETER HAS NEVER SIGNED LIKE THAT! Man oh Man

Nope, but im an experienced autograph collector. People value my opinions on autographs over at another site, and I know 100% that autograph is not authentic. I dont think its a fake COA or hologram, I bet it just got taken off the real card and placed on the fake. This happens alot and you can read about it at Sports Cards Uncensored

Some of you are a scammers dream!!

I like that site very much; it has lots of good "money saving" info.

The foul language that permeates the site likely hurts
    its ability to mainstream itself.

  • i would consider myself somewhat of an expert as well since i own over 1,500 autographs . iam not doubting you . i just hate when
people come in here and say"dont buy , fake" without at least backing up the claim with at least some credible evidence

Here are authentic Jeter autographs that show his various autograph through thr years. The "buyback" cards COA says 2000. The person who signed this card (forger) tried to sign it as how Jeter signed when he was a rookie. Jeter had 3 different sigs until he hit the majors. This is an obvious sign of forgery as the card was signed in 2000. UDA holograms are not hard to take off and they dont destroy the hologram if tampered with. I took a hologram off a signed baseball because I didn't want to see it, and guess what? No evidence in it on the hologram. Im sure it can be done from a card to. Heck, people are taking the signed stickers off of cards, using alcohol to get the sig off, and taking the Topps holo COA on the back off with a razor blade, and making fake signed cards.

All I can say is be careful.....................I know my Jeter sigs and this is NOT HIS!

  • Good Job.........Thats all people want . I appreciate that you can back up the claim . To come in here and say something is fake without
some proof does not leave someone credible . At least you come in and show us . I commend you for your efforts. I did know that his
    auto changed over the years

Why peel a sticker off a legit piece (now basically unauthenticated) to make a forged copy? Can you take any UD set of stickers and create a forgery or is their some database to look up what piece goes with what set of stickers?
  • TZAHLTZAHL Posts: 649 ✭✭
If you can't compare it to the same issue (ie buyback from the same set) or that the other serial number is in existence it is hard to prove that anything shady is going on by the seller. Maybe he paid a high price for the card and has no idea it is allegedly a fake. Maybe he does. Maybe Jeter had his marketing agent sign those cards because he didn't want to mess with it. That's who usually recieves autograph requests......How are collectors ever to know if a card that is 'authenticated' by the card company actually signed by the player in question and not a 3rd party or autopen?

That's a lot of money to pay for a card.

  • Well, I think the Buyback market is about to hit the basement. I don't foresee buybacks going for high premiums and this is one of the reasons.
  • Is this Griffey Buyback the same seller has fake? Someone on another board said it is. I dont know about these.

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.
