    I've seen these for sale (in silver as well) but since I was unaware of the company, I thought they were some cheap knock-off of Degussa. It still looks like somebody's basement enterprise, however.

    Not likely, this Austrian company has been around for over 100 years.

    Pretty cool. I liked seeing the stamping process. Never seen that part of production before.

    The mould that they are pouring molten gold into has flames around it. Anyone know why? Does the mould have to be heated for some reason?

    It helps the bar to avoid forming "cavaties" as the metal cools much slower in a heated mold. If poured into a room temp mold, the gold would harden so fast that pockets of air would form bubbles or cavaties in the bar.
