it's been too long since I posted in this thread. I received another piece of the T205 puzzle yesterday (top right - Bill Dahlen), so here is the updated image. I'm just missing Irvin Wilhelm to have the complete T205 Superbas set.
Since my last 1952 Topps udpate, I've managed to land four of the six high numbers I needed, including the Jackie. I edited the post above to show my progress. 31/33 are in hand - just need Billy Herman and Dick Williams.
1952 Topps Dodgers update: I just picked up Billy Herman, which brings the set to 32/33. I'm just missing Dick Williams. I can't believe I'm almost done with this part of my collection!
Here's another Dodgers set that is almost done - 1951 Topps. The team set consists of three Blue Backs and four Red Backs. I just picked up the last Blue Back, Ralph Branca, which should be here in a couple of days. In the meantime, here are the six I already have.
edit: 1/24/15
I forgot to scan an arrival from back in December, which was Ralph Branca - the last card for the 1951 Topps set.
Always fun to stare at Dodger cards. I need a bunch, mostly tougher high numbered cards and/or SPs that I have never really made an effort to go after. I want mine as crease and wear free as possible though, so I will never get as close to completion as you have unless some lottery money comes into play. I'll grab anything though, so I have many near sets as well for a lot of oddball issues too.
Damn Rose for being on McMullen's RC!!!
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.
Since my vintage Bowman run is done, and I'm down to just the one card to complete the Topps run, I thought I'd start a few more sets. One brand I've always liked has been Red Man (chewing tobacco), which were issued between 1952 and 1955. Here are my first two, both from 1954. Ultimately, I think I'll collect them "with tab". Back in the day, a person could cut 50 of the tabs from the cards and send them in for their choice of a baseball cap.
Here's another set I'm starting: 1934-36 Diamond Stars. I picked up Van Lingle Mungo last week. I have to research whether the variations that exist within the set will affect the Dodgers or not.
Last one is this card from 1935 Goudey 4 in 1. It is the only card is the set to feature only Dodgers. There are a few other cards that feature just one Dodger as part of the four players featured on the card. I'll chase those down at some point.
Wow Geordie! A lot of this thread predates my time on the boards and I somehow missed your October update. This thread is TREMENDOUS! I especially love the stuff on this last page, the 51 and 52 Topps and the prewar stuff. Awesomeness all around!

I've always had a soft spot for Red Man tobacco cards too.
Tonight, with the addition of #396 Dick Williams, my Topps Dodgers run is done. To be quite honest, I never thought I'd reach this point in my collection. Some of my close friends call my collection a labor of love, and I suppose that's exactly what it is. My cards are pretty cool-looking to some, and quite fugly to others. Me, I think they're beautiful. They're well loved. They've been handled often and all too often abused. And I love 'em.
So here it is. The complete 1952 Dodgers set. I'm so stinkin' stoked!
Imagine if those cards could talk about their experiences over the last 53 years! What have they gone through? Who owned them? I like how someone wrote their last name (Chapman) on the George Shuba card. I remember as a kid that some would write their names on their cards to reflect their ownership (I never did). Some wrote it on the front, others on the back. Some of these cards were taped or glued in albums or perhaps on a kid's wall or bulletin board.
The cards of Billy Cox and Clarence Podbielan appear unnaturally white compared to the others. Are those reprints? I know that Topps did produce reprint sets.

Well stated, and some gorgeous well-loved cardboard
Me being a team set kind of a guy......I am stoked for you!
How many high numbers are in your 1952 Topps Dodgers team set? There are 4 in my Cardinals team set. Although they are commons, mine were very tough to find and pricey.
This makes me want to show off my Cardinals team set collection. One day I will.
So....how far are you going with it? Is 1953 next?
Thanks for the great responses, everyone. I truly appreciate it.
Barry, I put four more 'sets' on my list last month: Diamond Stars, Red Man, Bell Brands and Post. Diamond Stars will be fairly easy. I'm most excited about Red Man.
Shane: 16 high numbers, including Jaxkie, Pee Wee and Campy. Then there's card #1, Andy Pafko. Not any easy or inexpensive team set to put together, even given my condition requirements. To your follow up question: I'm all done with Toops and Boeman now. Feels really good to be done with them after all these years.
I hope the Dodgers do a turn back the clock day and use the uni's that Bill Dahlen wore! Dahlen's only WS was a win with the Giants. Nice cards anyway.
Tallulah Bankhead — 'There have been only two geniuses in the world. Willie Mays and Willie Shakespeare.'
I think it's great you're doing T3 Dodgers. In my mind, the T3 set is the most aesthetically pleasing of any set ever produced. It's like looking at little miniature paintings, but instead of the painting displaying a haggard old man sitting on the porch smoking a pipe, these display your favorite ballplayer. What could be better?
Looking forward to seeing your progress on the set. Hell, pick up the T3 Cobb while you're at it. :-)
I'd like extend a finger to Comcast (I'll let you figure out which one) - their decision to discontinue their Personal Web Pages feature to their customers left me in a little bit of a bind. Every one of my pictures, every one of my personal web pages, everything - it was all hosted by Comcast. At some point in the past several days they shut it all down. That means I have to change the links in this thread and others to point to my new page. I fixed a few of them, and will fix the rest as time permits.
In the meantime, what do you think of the name of my new site?
collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
And that allows me to present the next challenge, Cracker Jack. I've been eyeing these even before I finished Turkey Red, but haven't been compelled to chase one until early this week - 8% bucks and 5% eBates helped that decision along a little.
Wow. It's been over a year since my last update? That's not going to work!
Here's what my Cracker Jack collection looks like right now. Just two to go - Jake Daubert and Zach Wheat. I have a Daubert, but it's a horribly OC PSA 2 and will be replaced when I can find a suitable card.

Yeah, I know there are 18 cards in the quoted pic. I must've edited it at some point soon after I first scanned the 16.

Ain't that the truth. I picked mine up for about $90 delivered. It's condition is reflective of the price!

What a great sentiment.
These are the words of something that's few and far between IMO: a collector.

Very nice Geordie.
Thought it would be a Dodger.
See you in Chicago?
Hiya, Mike.
Unfortunately, I can't make it this year. I'm shooting for Cleveland (?) in '18 or back in Chicago in '19.

The Rucker card was a favorite for someone - probably folded up and tucked away in a wallet?
