The little thing on the bottom right says JM Assay Office with the letters SLC (for Salt Lake City) in the middle.

  • Are you sure it doesn't say fine silver in bottom of that oval?
    Its all relative

  • That is strange, Must be assumed. I've never noticed it before, Probably b/c I don't own a 100 oz like that but I had smaller ones that say Fine Silver in that little oval.

I trust it. A lot of the old pours don't say fine silver but just numbers. Now if this was a new product I wouldn't trust.

Because that would constitute fraud from the China Assay office...

i would instantly pass on it. i learned my lesson last year.
a lot of silver out there to buy. no reason to buy sketchy stuff that
you are not sure about personally.

Nearly all large Johnson Matthey poured bars are like that. The 100's, 50's, Kilo's and 20's I know for sure are almost all not marked with "silver" or "ag". They have fineness and weight only. It's the one reason I've never owned one and never will. It's not that I don't trust Johnson Matthey, because I do. It's that I don't want to have to deal with a potential buyer from me in the future that makes a fuss about it.
  • I was checking eBay to see if other 100 oz were stamped with silver and they're not. Kinda strange.

  • I'm not 100% certain but I had a 20 oz and I thought it was marked with Fine silver in that bottom oval, Maybe Ashland can tell us as I know he has some including my old one.

Check it out: 1000 oz JM AG bar from Tulving. Not marked "silver" unless I'm mistaken...

No, none of the poured JM bars I have ever had said "silver" on them. And I have never had the slightest problem selling them either.
Perth Mint and Engelhard have bars without the word "silver" on them also.
I would not worry on the big names.

    Here's a nice close-up of a typical 100 oz bar (not mine)
