I love eBay!

I know many people despise eBay but I love it. If I had to rely on purchasing my PM's from B&M's my stash wouldn't equal anything. Thanks to eBay I'm able to purchase any type of PM I want at anytime of the day while sitting on the couch in nothing but my socks image I have some super nice & rare pieces of bullion in my possession which I would never have been able to obtain if it weren't for the bay.

On top of that, Where else can you reach millions of potential customers all across the world for 15 cents? Not to mention that Buyers on eBay will pay upwards of $100/oz for certain types of silver where B&M's would give you $13 +/- oz for it no matter who its from or what form.

All in all, I have had over 10,000 transactions on eBay and I would say less than 25 bad experiences which were nothing major.

I can't recall seeing a positive post about eBay, Its always negative. Just thought I'd throw out a positive for a change.

The reason why you never see a pos. post is because we are the "silent majority." I've been on eBay for almost 9 years, buying & selling w/o ever having had a major problem. All you have to do to prevent most major issues is to follow eBay or PayPal's guidelines, good photos, honest write ups, low s/h fees, prompt mailing and response to buyers inquiries.

I don't think you will find that many buyers that complain about eBay..... and for them it is a great source for coins.

The problem is for the sellers. EBay has turned rather hostile towards the sellers with the changes in their policies regarding feedback, use of PayPal, fees, etc. (PayPal appears to side with the buyers 99% of the time, even when the buyer is committing fraud. The seller has very little recourse against a fraudulent buyer).

If you relook at the threads where eBay is 'bashed', you will most likely find it is about a seller getting taken for a ride....

Take 2 identical items. List 1 on ebay, take the other to your local coin dealer. Let me know which does better.image

I've been a seller on eBay for 8-10 years and have sold Thousounds of items. Like I said above, I haven't had many problems. There is the occasional PITA buyer but believe me, They frequent B&M shops as well. I've had more bad experiences as a buyer than a seller. Maybe I'm in the majority but I doubt it. For every bad experience a buyer or seller has I bet they had 100's of no incident transactions. Its just they don't care to publish those as they are not as interesting.

I have stopped buying and selling on ebay cold turkey, and I have even stopped using PayPal. I have not noticed a hit in my business what so ever.

The eBay one will, Hands down. Don't believe it? 2 weeks ago I bought a cohen mint 3.5 oz bar from you (via Paypal) for $50, If I remember right it sat there a few days before I PM'd you. I Sold it on eBay this week for $75. People on the BST will not touch bullion unless it is Very close to spot. I've only sold a few things BST but I've picked up a few deals there b/c of this.

I recently had USVI 1 oz bars listed for $17 each, Not one person interested. I just sold 25 of them on eBay for $22.50/oz and the buyer emailed me to purchase 125 more at the same price. Even after the fees I'll end up with more than I would have Via BST.

On top of that, I just sold less than 100 oz of silver on eBay yesterday for $3500, If listed on BST I would have been lucky to get $1500 or less from B&M

    Once again, I love eBay!

I'm glad to hear that ebay still works for some people. With about 400 transactions, I ran into a problem about 1% of the time - and that was plenty. That was also before they put all sellers at total risk by banning all types of payments except paypal, which in my opinion is a predatory and monopolistic practice.

I never had a problem when I accepted money orders and required personal checks to clear. Their blather about "safety" is just that - blather.

Ebay still has the largest audience, and therefore should be able to garner the highest prices for a true auction format. That being the case, you'd be somewhat negligent if you didn't at least compare the costs of selling through ebay with a few quotes from reputable dealers before buying or selling something such as bullion which can be priced around without too much trouble.

The mandatory paypal doesn't really bother me. I rarely ever Received a Money order payment when they were allowed. Maybe 1/50 items. Its seems like I get more money orders now than before the change.

The type of bullion I'm interested in you cannot just call a local dealer and get.

Ditto. Back in the day when I didn't take Paypal all I got was people complaining to me about how they wanted to pay me with Paypal. Now I hear people moaning about having to use Paypal. Folks are going to bitch and moan no matter what happens.
