I never understood why someone would melt .999 bars with well know hallmarks to make .999 bars with unknown hallmark and charge a mark up? What will coin shops say when you bring them in to sell?

Who melted down hallmarked bars Jim?
Edited to add: And what would a COIN SHOP say? Probably the same thing they'd say if you walked in with this bar. "I'll give ya melt for it". Why would you ever sell anything to a coin shop?
The silver was purchased from APMEX in the form of 50 ounce bags of .999 fine silver shot. I trust APMEX as much as everyone else who knows about bullion, 100%.

Its ok Tom...as of about 3-4 weeks ago, im out of the fractional silver bullion game. I sold my vast holdings to a couple of members here. Its time to really stick my nose to the grindstone on my gold panda complete set aspirations!
I think they go well with the rest of my collection.
And I think they are 'cute'.
Interesting that some folks so profit oriented. I'm not saying that it is a bad thing, but it is just a portion of the spectrum of the numismatic purchasing base. Some collectors focus on profit, some collectors focus on items in their collection, most folks are a combination of both and few folks are only one and not the other.
Also, i've always felt that the silver content of even mainstream bars is questionable without a full battery of tests. Drill and fill is what scares me away from 100 ounce bars and up, mainstream name or not.
Now what would be cool is to have gold easter eggs. I'd probably fall over laughing watching watching a little one trying to pick up the easter basket. Of course they'd have to be exchanged for the chocolate type.
Remember, I'm pullen for ya; we're all in this together.---Red Green---
I can account for 3 mini bread baskets. I can hardly call them bars, but they're cute. I need loops affixed to these so they can be used as an adornment. Do you suppose a jeweler could do that simple enough, or should I go to the welding shop ?

Any decent jeweler should be able to solder a jump ring to those mini bars for a few bucks. Might be uncomfortably heavy to wear around one's neck though. Its a chunk of metal, not a pendant.

Take em to the jeweler for a very small fee. Its along the same lines of why I dont change my own oil....the convienence FAR outweighs the small savings.
Not too convenient when they forget to reinstall the drain plug or forget to check if the rubber Oil filter gasket is still stuck to the block before they install the new one. Both true stories that have happened to my friends/family. I always change my own oil. If you want something done right, Do it yourself :-)
Got my Geckobars today! They are too cool! Thanks, buddy!

What would a "coin shop" offer for this piece Jim?

These hand poured bars would make an interesting item to place in plastic eggs for an Easter Egg Hunt
