I am neutral, does any luster come through?

1903-P dollars come nice. This one looks dull and marked up. Even if there is luster in the drab toning, this is not the kind of toning that people who pay bigs bucks for it want to see. I'm among the dislike people.

I would call this nuetral toning........Meaning it adds nothing and takes nothing away from the coin.

I like the look of the toning, but I must admit that the hits on the cheek distract my eye, and a apparent lack of luster concerns me. Respectfully...Mike

Too dull for me and the cheek bites are very distracting. Two thumbs down.

Nice original look to it, but I find the reeding marks on the cheek too distracting.
MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

I like that kind of toning, but not necessarily on a morgan, they get toned the easiest, so I would want something more pleasing. If it was a bust, that would be a different story. The toning is fine...what bothers me is the tics on liberty's face and elsewhere.

Looks dull. I would rather have a white example.

Well I am a super newbie.... but I have to say I like it. I actually like this coloring better than a shiny, untoned coin. But keep in mind I have no idea what I am talking about :-)

Just to let you know. Morgan dollars are the ONE area when "shiny untoned coins" are OK because there are many original, never dipped examples that exist. The reason is that these coins were no popular when they were made, and millions of them were stored in government vaults away from air and light for many years. Most other silver coins that are "shiny and untoned" have been dipped, but no Morgan dollars.

Why did the government make so many coins that no one wanted? It had to do with lobbyists and politics. The silver mine industry had a lot of money and could buy a lot of influence. There were also populist politicians who were working to inflate the U.S. economy with missive increases in the money supply. The compromise legislation obligated to the Federal Government to buy lots of silver and coin it into silver dollars.
