First strike on the UHR's

PGCS website states that it will issue the "First Strike" label to coins that are received within 30 days of the release. If the mint is now shipping them on 02/20 for some orders that would eliminate them from the first strike label even though coins were ordered minutes apart from one another. I would never pay a premium for a coin with a first strike label but sure would like one for "free" with a qualifying submission.

Well it all depends. If no ones gets shipped until 2/6/09 (which appears to be the case now) then you would still have 30 days from then.

My guess is that what PCGS means by "release" is the date the first coin ships. JMHO.

Wasn't today (1/28) the first date anyone was promised their UHR would be shipped? I know most have received emails pushing that date back to 2/6. Unclear though whether any are gong out today since there were some who had been told their orders were "in process" before today. Generally, the US Mint will send out an email notification (if you order on line) advising that your order has shipped. It will be interesting to learn whether ANYONE gets an email today adviising their UHR has shipped. Assuming a handful do go out it will then be interesting to learn whether PCGS will use today's date as the starting date for First Strike elibibility purposes.

Actually the mint email comes late, the item has shipped if not already delivered by the time they say anything. Is the mint still using fedex or are we stuck now with ups?

I'd bet that they''ll hold everyone's so that they can ship the book with the coin and save some $.

Not entirely sure about PCGS policy. I can bet you that if the policy currently states 30 days from release meaning the first day they went on sale, PCGS will change it. They will NOT lose out on the FS money if the Mint waits at least a month to start shipping orders! You heard it here first.

I have one of the earlier order numbes I saw....placed at 1207. I received the e-mail saying 6 Feb. The web site still says in stock and reserved but the cancel button is still present.

Also see it is unavailable for re-pricing.

Isn't the Mint policy that for purchases over a certain amount, and the UHR's certainly qualify, everything is sent expedited and through FedEx? However, is a signature required or do they just throw the box on the ground by your doorstep?

They just throw the box next to the doorstep in the mud and rain/snow so that natural toning can start the minute you get it

The first production pieces were struck in November 2008 at West Point Mint. If you don’t have one from that production run, you don’t have any claim to having a “first strike.”

PCGS definition of a "First Strike" is: Issued within 30 days of release .... Has nothing to do when the coin was struck....

The label is meaningless.... we have been through this rubbish before. It means nothing more than 'being shipped in a specific time frame'. Even the Mint issued a statement that it is not possible to identify first strike, plus, new dies are used periodically - therefore initiating further 'first strikes' down the road. It is all hype, and those who participate are either fleecers or fleecees. Cheers, RickO

We hear you ... but it sure makes a difference when you try to sell your coin ... and for $14 extra, it's well worth it. I never look a "gift horse" in the mouth, even if he or she used Listerine...

Update, update, my coin is in stock and reserved no date for shipment. But funny thing my book was bumped up by 2days from the 20th of Feb. to now the 18th.

Prove that mine weren't from that run

(funny thing is, those could end up being some of the later ones, depending on if they use FIFO or just storage....)

One wonders if anyone from the U.S. Mint could even tell whether the first in are the first out.
