Some "mini bullion" anyone?

These are all JM bars, the smallest ones circling the periphery are 1 gramers.

Here is an assortment of all kinds of bars, the majority are 5 grams.

The largest here are JM 1/2 ouncers. The next size are Engelhard silver prospetors in the 1/10th size, and finally a few 1/20th NORFED Liberties.

  • Very nice, Is that a 2 ounce JM bar in top pic?
    Its all relative
  • Yes it is Rick, and 1 of only 2 that these eyes have ever seen. (thats in well over 10 years of paying attention to such oddities).
  • wow, I wasn't aware they existed in 2 oz. Hopefully I can find one. If you don't mind me asking, what did is set you back? I imagine you paid for it. Do you have one the NERCO, TD BANK or MTB JM bars?

Do 2 ounce rounds carry a premium in general?

Edited to add: Awesome looking silver hoard by the way!
  • Believe it or not, I lucked out on that bar in an ebay auction. I bought it over a year ago, it cost me $26, and I wanna say silver was at maybe $11? It was a STEAL! I dont have any bars made by JM for private entities such as banks, or the Cortez mine, or Kraft foods. They dont appeal very much to me for some reason.

Only if made by a highly recognizable refiner such as JM, Credit, Engelhard, Pamp, etc. Generic 2 oz rounds dont pack the same punch and prolly sell for the normal silver premiums right now.
  • Wow, I imagine it would sell for a pretty penny today. I'll triple your $ image

  • image A very fair offer, but I couldnt replace it for maybe 5 years!!!

Edited to add: Or maybe ever! Didnt you see my youtube video on the fractional silver? The 2 ounce bar was featured.
  • I did watch the vids but don't recall the 2 oz. Daughter must have stole my attn for a moment. Watch, One will pop up on eBay in the next week or so :-). If it does, Stay away! lol.

  • Ummmmmm....OOOOOOOK. LOL. I'll try, but its like my fingers dont listen to my head when something rare comes up for auction. Tell ya what though, in the unlikely event I come across another during my bullion travels, I'll let ya have it for my cost + 10%. Consider this an extraordinary gesture because much like Noah, I like my stuff in pairs.image
  • Heres a recent pick-up that im sure you will really dig. Its a Johnson Matthey & Mallory 100 grain silver piece. Never seen one before or since! It cost $30 (about $150/oz equivalent), but for something THIS cool, I was THRILLED to pay that price!

  • I have never seen that either. Where do you find this stuff. I have 20 of the 100 gram bars but zero 100 grain bars. :-(

Thank you for the gesture on the 2 oz although like you say, It'll probably never happen, at least for some time.

  • I just keep my eyes peeled on ebay and I even occasionally find stuff at local B&Ms. I dont own a single 3.215 oz JM bar. I think perhaps because im so dedicated to fractional stuff, maybe I have subconsciously ruled out that bar as being "too large". I would love to buy one from you though. Or we can make a trade on my mini breadloaves. Gram for gram straight up.image
  • I'd be willing to sell one. Don't supposed you're looking to trade any of your JM bars?

  • why is it so hard to find the smaller silver bars these days? Apmex has the smaller gold but not the silver

  • << <i>why is it so hard to find the smaller silver bars these days? Apmex has the smaller gold but not the silver >>

2 very simple reasons. First and foremost, fractional silver hasnt been made by any major refiner in well over 20 years! So most of what was made is in 1 of 3 places. They either went to the refinery to be melted and made into other bars, they are sitting in junk boxes in B&Ms all over the country, or they have fallen into "sophisticated hands", meaning fractional silver collectors such as myself.

The second reason is that ANYONE can afford an ounce of silver, but not everyone can afford an ounce of gold. For this reason, the demand for fractional gold as an INVESTMENT is infinitely higher than demand for fractional silver as an INVESTMENT. Therefore, alot of bullion dealers such as APMEX wont stock the fractional silver because the biggest demand for these oddities is from strictly collectors, and not bullion investors. There is a niche of collectors out there who go gaga for this stuff. Me and "Cars" are both AVID collectors. A quick glance at what this type of material sells for routinely on ebay will show you that there is actually a strong market for such pieces. A Johnson Matthey 1 gram silver bar for instance has a melt value of about 40 cents. Yet they routinely sell for over $10 when offered on the bay. That is 25x melt, or an astounding almost $300 per ounce!!!!!
  • thanks..Didnt know they dont even make them anymore...some have the market cornered anyway image

You mean someone has the fractional silver market cornered? I'd love to get a name if you have one. As strictly an educated guess, I probably am one of the top 50 or so collectors of this type of material in the country, but I in no way have anything "cornered"! image

Gecko has one of the best JM little bar collection I've seen BUT in the area of old hand poured bars, he's not even close to the top image
I think he really needs to add the old JM hand poured bars to his collection to make it more complete.
