To each their own. I like toned SAEs. I don't much like WLHs, barbers (any) or buffnics (toned or white) but others due. I just accept that people like different things.
braddick or any others..........whats with the one he posted? Is there a thread on the ASE he posted? Is this the one that everyone argued was AT and it was somehow slabbed by PCGS and sold for thousands????

<< <i>I like the ASE, don't get me wrong. But I just don't see paying hundreds of dollars for them????
I've got a couple that are nicely toned, does anyone want them for $100 a pop? >>
Hundreds? Nope. I wouldn't. I do have some that are toned that I have sold raw for a small premium (really, not a lot more than melt) to a few forum members over the years. I've also paid a small premium for some toned ones (again, not a lot over melt).
I did get some slabbed and have been contemplating between selling them or doing a registry of toned morgans. Nicely toned are harder to come by as a lot that I see on ebay are pretty ugly.
<< <i>Ugh, one of the biggest wastes of money in all numismatics. At least buy a toned Morgan and not boring bullion. Oh well, to each his own. >>
Toned morgans are as bad, or worse, than toned SAEs as most of the morgans sat in the bank vaults/GSA and didn't circulate either Plus, there are hundreds and hundres of millions (billions!) of the morgans...all have the same design (boring)

IMO, ASE's will be the next Morgan's of our time period................
Oh boy.I just opened myself up to some flaming huh Ron Not you but the rest here
I keep pointing out that trade dollars were bullion coins and by the normal forum bashing of "That's just bullion" should be worth melt but nobody ever replies. I think because there isn't a good reply. --Jerry

I hate to say it folks but Morgans were produced simply as a bullion to back paper notes. The coins never really circulated and by definition is simply bullion.
Just because lots of folks collect them doesn't change their history and put them into the same category as cents, nickels, dimes, quarters or halves.
From the posts I've seen on Toned SAE's and how some "Mona Lisa" toned specimens are selling for fairly high premiums, I expect the market to get flooded with "toning assisted" SAE's in the near future.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

<< <i>Now what causes a something that young to do that? 1 ASE+brown coinbag, put in oven at 300-350 for one hour. Remove from oven to cool, serve. >>
I cannot speak for any of them except mine
This one has been in this holder since day one. Just like the others I have been in similar holders. The ones that tend to be mostly golden toned have been exposed to the air or in an album.
I also have some Sac's that have turned colors as well. Now, since they have been in these types of holders are they AT?
What about the Morgans that have been in mint bags, are they AT?
Also, another reason to keep in mind is that they are .999 vs. .90 silver for the Morgan dollar. This may have another factor.
One last thought....what makes the Canadian dollars tone so wildly? They are in mint packaging. I would say that this adds to the toning but the silver content must come into play or perhaps how the proof planchets are prepared
I will not argue that many have been doctored, but I will only speak for mine;

NOPE, NOPE, NOPE!
The real pretty ones I posted with the Yellows & Reds & Greens - Absoulutely NOT!
Same goes for the Bluish looking one!
ABSOLUTELY, NO HEAT, NO BAG, NO CHEMICAL & NO TACO RAG!
For ME - it was a matter of what it was kept in & how long.
Absolutely NO CHEMICALS, NO SHAKE & BAKE & NO HEAT - WHAT SO EVER!
Child's play, Mother Nature & Father Time combined with the fact that Silver this pure is a no brainer to tone. The ONLY thing I did was be careful not to scuff it up.

Under such terms & conditions - having cracked it out of a PCI holder & mixing it in with
the other candidates, I can see how it was able to be PCGS certified - can't you?
I need to image some others!
One shot was taken with OTT, the other was taken using 40W clears.
Which pic is OTT? Which is the 1 using the clear setup?
Which setup do you think offers the better "look"?
Thanx !
