THE OFFICIAL 2008 TOPPS HERITAGE HIGH NUMBER THREAD!!!!!

Please post information, pictures, pulls, thoughts, opinions, trades, etc. about 2008 Topps Heritage High Number Series here. I was told that the release date is this Tuesday the 19th although it looks like a couple of auctions on EBay state that is now live. Any truth to this? I would also like to hear thoughts and opinions from the Heritage regulars. Is this Topps way of enhancing a good thing or killing a good thing?

I did a BIN for two retail boxes from wildwood_ent on Wednesday, 11/12. They were advertised as "in stock", even though the Topps website lists November 26 as the release date. I received notice on Thursday, 11/13, that the boxes had been shipped. Not received as of Saturday morning.

sure they wern't update boxes and not heritage update?

    Kevin
  • Options
I contacted the seller before purchase to make sure he had what he said he had.
  • Options
I saw the auctions from wildwood as well. The pictures of the boxes are definitely Topps Heritage High number boxes. Wildwood must have some kind of connection with Topps as this is not the first time wildwood has had a Topps product early.

Quick update before dinner. 5 boxes in and here are the results so far:

Al Jackson Real One Auto 42/59
    Johnny Cueto Black Refractor
Al Kaline, Julio Lugo and Ryan Zimmerman relics
    10 refractors
    30 chrome
    2 59 buybacks unopened
    5 box panels unopened
and about 85% of the set

I did open one box without an auto or relic which I was not very happy about.
7 boxes to open and scans later tonight.

I'd say that was a great first five boxes!! A Red auto and a black refractor? Great job!!! If you would be so kind, when you post the pics later tonight, could you send a pic of the wrapper both front and back??

    I'd appreciate it!!

The Cueto refractor was in a pack by itself. The other two were stuck together in the same pack and are both # 7/59. The autos and relics actually came out of 7 boxes, one box did not have an auto or relic.

The dealer by my office gave me a presale price of $53. I only had enough cash for one box, because I just bought a box of regular Heritage from him (stupid). He said his order should be there Tuesday. I won't be back until next Monday. I'll see what I can find between now and then.

Regarding the Clubhouse cards, it appears there will be some repeat players in both the first and second series. Zimmerman in the 1st series was a jersey card, but the 2nd series card has a bat relic. Will this be the case with all of the repeats?

Is the Topps website checklist correct on the Clubhouse cards? It appears a majority of them will be repeat players, which should make Ebay a nightmare trying to tell these apart.

My two retail boxes yielded 234 green backs (71 were duplicates), 33 black backs (six duplicates), six chrome, one refractor, one black refractor (John Danks), four Rookie Performers, three TAN, four FB, and a Clubhouse Collection Alex Gordon Jersey (This card has a glossy finish; is that common?). It seems most of the sp's are 676-720, but I don't really have enough product to be sure. If anyone finds the sp's or black back check list, please post.

The 4 year-old and the baby are doing great. We are currently in transition. We have been temporarily living in an apartment for a whole year now with our relocation. We have this three-bedroom apartment full, our house is full (staged), and we have three storage units packed full of junk. One of the storage units is for cards only. Both of the kids will be able to take their pick of cards if they chose to do so when the time comes. My wife may arrange a premature meeting with my Maker if this does not end soon.

Glossy finish? Is it different from the other Clubhouse Collection relics posted on the first page of this thread?? My thoughts are that the SPs are probably 686-720 since it was announced that there are 35 SP cards.

I saw on EBay that the boxtoppers are in a red wrapper instead of the tan wrapper. Hopefully, these are not see through. I still wish that these original 1959 Topps cards did not have the ugly stamp on them. I am working on a 1959 Topps set and it sure would be nice to be able to add to it and buy Heritage boxes at the same time. Oh well, maybe Topps will make the needed change for 2009 Topps Heritage with the 1960 Topps set??? Anyone have any thoughts about this??

These Clubhouse cards are going to be a nightmare for Ebay.

There's a Bob Gibson card up right now, but that, I would assume, is for the high series. I can see a lot of people getting confused by these.

Do the back of the Clubhouse cards have any marking saying they are from the "high" series or update series?

The few CC cards I have from the "original" 2008 Heritage have a flat finish, similar to the regular cards in the set. This card has a glassy/glossy/ "shiny" finish to the front of the card. I'll try to get a picture out later today. The card is HCC-AG with no mention of high number series.

All the relics have a glossy finish in the Hi # series. Here are some more scans of the 8 boxes I have opened. They are the Box panels and 59 Buybacks, the Jablonski came out of the package torn.

All are for sale or trade, so make offers if you would like anything. I still have abunch of '06 and '07 SP needs if you have any to trade.

Ya know, I did a quick scan over the checklist and didn't see his name...that doesn't mean anything though...I was expecting to see a card featuring him in an A's uniform.

Hey all, I have been attempting to put together the 1959 Buyback set. Progress has been made but it has become very slow latey. I am hoping to find a new wave of cards I need for the set with the release of the High series cards.

Currently I have about 385 of the 572 for a complete set. Only short about 200 cards... sounds like a lot but when you consider there are only 6 to a case I am pretty happy with the progress.

So, I am buying or trading for any 1959 Topps Buybacks I do not have. below is a list of the cards I need. If anybody can help or has any new information about these cards please send me a PM.

    Thanks, Dave

In the 2008 Topps Heritage regular series, there were black backs, semi short prints, and then short prints. In the update, would it be safe to assume that the 35 black back cards listed above are also the 35 semi short prints for the set and there are no true SPs like in the regular series? Hope I am making sense here......

Just talked to a local buddy (and occasional board member) of mine - he's cracking his case right now. First two boxes have yielded a red ink, a black refractor, and over two dozen chrome. Chrome appear to be seeded at least 1:3. Can't wait to see what else he pulls.

    Geordie, Im here.

Didn't know if you got my text or not.

Here was the tally for the 12 box case:

    4 autos

    Brian Mccann Red
    Brian Mccann
    Fred Lewis
    Pumpsie Green

    3 black refractors
    8 Relics (all current players)
    95 chromes
    24 chrome refractors

I have just begun to sort through the regular cards, I really hope I can make one set out of what I have.

Anyone have any idea of the total number of black backs or other short prints?

    Joe
