All normal Peace $... cracked out of Ngc and Pcgs 65 holders with a feel at least 2 can 66...

1 1 12422912 7357 1922 $1 US MS64

What no BB?..lol..So lets see....

Cost of coins bought: $ 984.00
Cost of submission/shipping: $ 130.00
Total: $ 1,114.00

Now worth just over 10% of that...

Anyone here noticing more now than ever:
* Grading being very tight...
* More crossovers NOT crossing...
* More BB...

    I will say that in the last set of Jefferson nickels I sent to be graded I was sure (slam-dunk) that 3 of the coins would be graded full step. None were graded full step.

    Wow, that sure left a mark. Quite surprising as they pride themselves at being consistant. Clearly not in this case.

    I've only done a few submissions but I have kept mine uncracked as I feel that, if I play the game and lose, at least they don't go down image

    I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    I agree with Bochiman. I have about 20 various NGC and ANACS slabs that, I, like you, thought COULD cross and perhaps a handful COULD upgrade. I specifically left them in their slabs for the simple reason they CANT drop in grade, and I get NO BB's!! ONLY when I see how the submission goes, will I even THINK of cracking and submitting. Thats a tough hit you took, and, just perhaps they are tightening up (2 points worth on an OGH is tough to swallow, though). My condolences.
    I'll come up with something, eventually.

    I seriously doubt that since PCGS collects their fee's regardless of how a coin grades.

    Gave up over $1200 in grading fees to PCGS. About half the raw coins graded, all but two or three cross overs BB'd. PCGS came out ahead on that one.

    Well, for what it is worth - I've got probably 50 coins that I would LIKE to send in for grading or crossover - including an almost-red, gorgeous 1877 PF65 RB IHC in NGC. But since I have no current compelling need to "make" any of the coins - I'm not a dealer, and don't care THAT much about the registry - I'm holding off.

    Yeah, it would be nice to add the 3 Proof IHC's to my registry, but why on earth would I submit coins right now? And, if there are a thousand other folks in my shoes this year, it's costing PCGS a couple of million in revenue... That's 5% of CLCT's overall revenue.

    I like the fact that PCGS keeps their brand identity strong by being perceived by the market for tight grading... But when advanced collectors and even highly knowlegable dealers feel consistantly beaten up with (perceived) overly tight grading, the pendulum may have swung too far.

    I'm really looking forward to reading ecstatic posts about fair grades being received on awesome classic coins... Maybe there have been some recently; maybe I just missed them.

    The way to beat PCGS tight grading is to be a tighter grader than them. Demand "your" grade when buying and dismiss all of the hype from the seller.

    I've recieved 4 submissions back in the last 2 mths. I have been overall very happy with the grades with a very low BB ratio. They are all classics.
    The only problem I had was on a RB penny which I swear is all natural toning - returned for Questionable Color. Personally, I think they are ultra conservative right now on Copper.

    That hurts!!

    Having sent a gaggle of DBHE dollars and one FH dollar to NGC a couple years ago, only to have each and every one BB, I feel your pain. (IMO, only 2 seemed questionable.) Resubmitted all but the 2 questionable to PCGS and they all slabbed.

    Are you going to resubmit the two that you thought had a shot at 66?

    sometimes I got a laugh at coins that actually received a grade...when they were thrown in to fill out an order (back when you had a minimum of five coins)

    Grading is a VERY subjective opinion...or three subjective opinions.

    I must be the luckiest person on this forum,as I have had the last 16 CBH's all grade out of the last 16 submitted.(6 of the 16 were crackouts and the other 10 were raw coins)2 were downgraded for a total of 15 points,but 1 was upgraded by 15 points.

    Tight? No problem.

    Just turn it over.

    If that's the way it is then start sending in all the
    OBH coins etc that APPARENTLY are OVER graded!

    Strict - I can live with.

    But how about some "Consistency" across the board!

    Personally, I'm satisfied with how PCGS has graded me.image

    Submitting has certainly given me a much better eye.

    Cryin' and beachin' will get you Nowhere.

    True, but consider this. More green stickers on PCGS slabs = higher public perception that PCGS graded coins are "better" investments = greater number of people who will submit to PCGS in the future. I can see the link.

    I'm definitely done submitting until things loosen up at both NGC and PCGS
    I don't mind grading being a little tight.. but my last two submissions to PCGS and one to NGC were rediculously tight on the 2008 rev of 07 ASE's!!!
    I usually spend about $300 to $600 on a submission but that money is better off in my pocket right now especially with the current economy

    As long as individuals 'must have' slabbed coins.... and as long as 'individuals' are not as good as the TPG's at grading, we will have stories such as this. Opinions are just that..... even 'informed' opinions..... Those who believe they are better than the TPG's need to apply for a job there.... otherwise, accept what you are given. Or - spend money on resubmissions.... your money, your choice. Cheers, RickO

    I think it goes deeper than that right now... His submission was for coins that were previously graded by NGC and PCGS at 1 to 2 grades higher and ALL came back lower so it was not only his own opinion but the opinion of both PCGS and NGC previously.

    I am conceited. Those who know their coins "inside and out" should not need the backing of certification to determine the coins' grades.

    True, but when it comes time to sell, the buyer might not be so savvy. If the seller advertises the
    coin as "PQ", he's automatically under suspicion for hype, or so it seems around here.

    I'd have a lot more respect for these companies if they weren't so WILDLY inconsistent from year to year. If they would simply adopt a standard and stick to it, instead of this whole "a tight grading period means we can use gradeflation and then see increased submissions later!" business policy that is silly to watch to say the least.
